Every week we have a wide variety of dogs/puppies and cats/kittens up for adoption. The dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm/lyme tested. Please go to our FAQ page to learn about our adoption fees, adoption requirements and policies, & how to adopt, as well as other things to consider before you adopt. A pre-adoption questionnaire must be filled out. Our pet adoptions are held every Saturday from 11:30 - 4. The foster homes only show the dogs on Saturdays at our pet adoptions unless otherwise specified in their descriptions. If you would like to inquire about our animals (besides coming to our pet adoption) you may contact us via email. Please keep in mind that we are volunteers and have families and jobs but we will respond to your email as quickly as possible, especially if it is an emergency. All HB dogs, unless otherwise noted, must live indoors only'.

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED: We have several dogs in need of foster homes. These dogs are safe in fosters right now, but for various reasons such as seeking a quieter place, needing some more one on one time, etc, we are seeking a new foster placement to help them while in rescue. The ones who need it most include: Charlie, Bugsy, Boggle, Lady, Pita Pocket, Eddie, Marlo, Dixie, Mimi, Peanut Butter, Paco, Gavin, Satchel, Alton, Maguire, Trenny, & Aggie. To learn more about fostering, please go to our Foster Facts page. Once you've read that, email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information. The dogs (and cats!) thank you for considering becoming a foster mom or dad!

HOMEWARD BOUND TOP 5 LIST! Just for fun, we have chosen to do a "Top 5" category selection for some of our dogs. While chances are high there are many more than 5 that fit into each category, it gives people a chance to whittle the choices down a bit, and is fun for us! For 3 categories we did expand it to the Top 10 due to popular demand! These lists will change and grow regularly! They are by no means complete - you have no idea how hard it is to narrow down this list when so many dogs fit into these categories! "Best Canine Companions" (dogs who would love to have another dog to live with) - Demitri, Mimi, Retro, Satchel, & Trenny. "Best Dogs for Families with Kids" - Armani, Beauregard, Chanel, Chet, Chopper, Demitri, Friday, Rory, Satchel, & Taz. "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners" - Armani, Beauregard, Bugsy, Chopper, Cooky, Casper, Layla, Ralphie, Taz, & Vadar. "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home" - (dogs who are saddest in rescue) - Aggie, Alton, Charlie, Layla, & Satchel. "Best Mellowest Dogs" - Aggie, Annabelle, Isis, Jasmine, & Libby. "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs" - Angus, Charlie, Jasmine, Lana, Layla, Mandy, Princess Penny, Purdy, Shay, & Sissy. "Best 'Therapy Dog Candidates'" Dude, Lana, Libby, Ralphie, & Shay. "Best Treasures often Overlooked" - Alton, Bailey, Bryce, Lucy, & Amollie. "Best Dogs who have Been Patiently Waiting for a Home" - Aggie, Brody, Chauncey/Jenner, Royce, & Retro
.

DOGS & PUPPIES IN OUR PROGRAM:

The dogs/pups listed above are all available for adoption. However, due to space constraints, we cannot bring all of the dogs to the pet adoptions. We tend to mainly just bring the dogs/pups to adoptions that people have inquired about. If you have certain dogs you wish to see (please limit your list to a few) please email the contact person for the particular dog or dogs you are interested in. If the dogs listed above don't match what you are looking for, feel free to check our site later on in the week as we get in new dogs/pups all the time. The list of the available dogs is generally updated Monday evenings, Thursday evenings/Friday mornings, & Saturday evenings. You can also see our dogs/cats available for adoption at www.petfinder.com/ shelters/MN304.html.

Feeling overwhelmed as you begin the rescue process? With so many wonderful dogs it can be very hard to know what is the right choice for your family. If you want a little guidance, we would be happy to help you with suggestions for the right fit. Email us a description of some of the characteristics you are seeking (size, gender, temperament, housing situation, kids and other pets, energy level, etc. and we can send a list of possible suggestions for the right fit, or for some to check out. You can email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com or Laura at lberg05@comcast.net for suggestions.

HOMEWARD BOUND DOGS LOOKING FOR HOMES:

Name: Aggie
Breed: Boxer
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Aggie is a middle aged female Boxer, lazy should be her middle name. Happiest sacked out snoring or going for meandering walks, this gentle kid loving dog is so easy you often forget she is there. No chewing, no barking, housetrained, and doesn't have high exercise requirements. Plus she loves to cuddle! Her negative... we have to be honest... she is a food hound and will open your fridge if she can, eating whatever is inside. Velcro straps or banishment from the kitchen is needed. Maybe you can put a positive spin on it, teach her to go get a beer or a pop? Aggie is a great dog, getting sad and depressed in rescue because she wants her own soft bed and people. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

Name: Alton (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Heinz 57
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Alton is what every person looks for when they are looking for a running buddy, agility champ, or obedience star. He is nothing short of a genius! His foster mom has fallen head over heels for him. He is the whole package when it comes to great dogs...smart, loving, and sweet. Alton has been with kids 8+ and done great. He would make a great companion for a group of older kids who want to play and run. He is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good manners in the house. Alton tolerates the other dogs but doesn't like to share his food with them so is best as the only canine in the house. Out and about he is wonderful with other dogs. He knows some basic commands, walks well on a gentle leader, and is always looking to learn more! Alton would be absolutely amazing for a home wanting to continue obedience, dog sports (agility especially), or be a running/play buddy. He is not hyper but loves a daily outlet for his intelligence and energy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

Name: Amollie
Breed: Heinz 57
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Looking for a best friend? How about a furry buddy to tell all your secrets to? Well, Amollie would love to take on that role! She is a shy, gentle heinz 57 who came from Louisiana after surviving the hurricanes. Needless to say with all she has seen, she is a little scared and unsure of herself. Within a week at her foster home she learned how awesome people are and fell head over heels in love with her foster mom. Amollie follows her foster mom everywhere, worships the ground she walks on, and thinks her one job in life is to make her mom happy. Amollie gets along okay with her foster dad as well but bonds hardest to one or two people. She is perfect with cats and gets along well with other dogs. She needs a home with no kids since their unpredictable behavior terrifies her. Amollie is housetrained, crates quietly, and loves to nap on the couch. She is calm and mellow in the house and absolutely loves to snuggle. She also has a love for water, any chance she gets to swim, she'll take it. Her foster mom has even caught her laying in the water dish. She is very shy around new people and would prefer a quite home. All she wants is to hang out with her favorite person. Amollie is a favorite at her foster home and so deserving of a loving home of her own after all she has seen. Would you like to be her best friend? For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Rachel at lpuppylove4u@aol.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Angel
Breed: English Setter
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Angel has an angelic face, an angelic temperament, and absolutely fits her name. She is this delicate, sensitive, sweet small Setter with an amazing temperment and a calm, sweet, happy disposition. Angel was rescued from life in a backyard pen and she is so happy to be a housedog now. She is doing beautifully with the housetraining, absolutely loves the cats and other dogs, and does well with the kids at her foster home. She will cry in her crate a bit, she wants to be right with you (she has a few years of being left outside alone to make up for!) but sleeps well next to the bed at night. This is a take anywhere dog... the dog park, the cabin, the kid's games, wherever, she fits herself right in. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Lindsey at zeyerlindsay@hotmail.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Angus
Breed: Australian Shepherd / Collie Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Angus is a male adult Aussie/Collie, a regal boy in looks with a total softy, thinks he is a lap dog temperament. This big softy will crawl right into your lap and squeeze his eyes shut like he thinks you can't see (or feel!) this 50 pound dog on your lap! Angus was once loved, that much is obvious by his manners, his well adjusted temperment, and the way he is so calm in any situation. Angus is hoping for a new name soon though (we named him, he doesn't love it). Angus is housetrained, crated for the workday, and a medium energy dog. He does great with kids and other dogs, and has been fine with the cats at his foster after the one with claws showed him who was boss. He's a smart, NICE dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Linzy at rc_lg@live.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Annabelle
Breed: Chihuahua Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Annabelle is an adult pudgy little golden blonde Chihuahua mix, a solid little dog who LOVES to cuddle, is quiet and easy to take care of, housetrained and crate trained. She is used to a quieter lifestyle in a quieter home, tolerates the visiting kids ok but would prefer to live in an adult home. She needs some walks to burn some calories, but also needs a home able to put some boundaries in place when she is out walking. She likes to think she is queen of the sidewalk when other dogs come along. Those of us with dog experience think it's a little funny and redirect her, but she would do best in a home willing to be firm but kind. She does just fine with other dogs and cats, and rarely barks. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, you can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Armani
Breed: Lab / Spaniel Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Armani is a young male Lab/ Spaniel type mix who may have a dignified name but show this guy a group kids and all dignity goes flying out the window so he can goof around and play with them. Wow does this guy love the kids. He loves to play with them, snuggles under the covers in bed with them at night, and follows them around everywhere with a serious case of hero worship on them. They want a yard playmate, he's there. They want a hug, he's there. They want a dog to play dress up and barbies with, he's there too even if he has to wear a dress. Armani loves the other dogs as well and is the hit of the dog park. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, and has good manners in the house. He even knows some commands! He's young still at about a year so has a little 'puppy' to him but this guy's temperament and manners are steady and wonderful! He would be the ideal family dog. He is full grown at about 45-50 lbs. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

Name: Asti
Breed: Doxie Cross
Age: Senior
Gender: Female
Description: Asti is a mature lady of about 9 years old, a wire Doxie mix with regal blonde good looks and boy does she know she is cute! Asti is seeking a new home as a new baby arrived at her house, and she prefers a quieter, more predictable adult home. Asti is well housetrained, ignores the cat and tolerates the other dog (although clearly she thinks she is more human than dog). Asti would like a fenced yard or someone who walks often, she loves to be out and about. She is not one to go looking for a kid to be crabby to, but if they are running around wild in her space she gets grumpy. Asti would be perfect for an older home, loves her walks and rides. She is on prescription food for allergies, which helps her skin and to help prevent urinary infections. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions or wish for an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. Note: This dog does not attend pet adoptions but can meet with approved applicants during the week.

Name: Bacchus
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender:
Description: Meet Bacchus, a long shot making a plea for help! We have no open foster homes right now, and Bacchus loses his home August 7th. He is a 7 year old Lab mix, healthy and happy, current on shots and neutered. He did have a cancer place removed from under his chin, but is now cancer free. He loves kids, loves being outside playing, and is well mannered inside. He is housetrained and obedience trained, but has never been a hunting dog. Have room in your heart and home from a dog who truly is close to his 'last chance'? He has been neutered and is current on shots. If you have questions, email dlrobert2@gmail.com.

Name: Bailey
Breed: Basset Hound / Beagle Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Bailey has been with Homeward Bound for almost two years. Why? Because she is deaf and most people pass her by thinking that this is a disability for her. Well, she'll be the first to tell you that she doesn't care if she can't hear the world around her. She is Beagle/Basset hound mix for goodness sakes, her nose is her #1 resource! Bailey is looking for a home that wants a goofball. She loves to roll on her back, grunting, and then flies across the room and into your lap! She is full of love for her family, great with kids of all ages, and does well with other dogs. She cannot go to a home with cats. She is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners but could use some basic commands. Now with her being deaf that might sound impossible but it really isn't when you have a treat in your hand and the ability to give her a 'sign language'! It's the same as training a hearing dog, just without the words. She is super smart and sure loves her food so training her is very easy. Bailey shows her worst leash manners at the adoptions but at home tends to be more on the mellow side. She is outgoing, always happy, and is the example of how adaptable dogs are...even being deaf, nothing gets her down. We could all learn from Bailey! She would do best with a fenced yard or someone committed to leash walking/ tie-outs since she is a beagle mix and she cannot hear to be called back. She is about 4-5 years old and 45 lbs (and a little chunky!). You can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease.

Bailey is being sponsored by Marit I. For her birthday party, 7-year-old Marit asked guests for donations for Homeward Bound - how amazing is that? Thank you Marit!!!!

Name: Bailey 2
Breed: Basset Hound / Beagle Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Meet Bailey, an adult male Basset/Beagle with an amazing attitude who is now seeking a home with a canine companion. He is 7 years old and fully vetted, healthy and happy. Bailey was a pet store rescue at 7 months of age and because of that prefers not to be kenneled..., spending 7 months straight in a cage will do that to a dog! He has a wonderful disposition, playful, loves kids and other dogs, and is very obedient. He is at a great age because he also mellows out very well and loves hanging out, too. He is being rehomed because the other companion dog passed away, and super busy schedules leave Bailey alone at home too often and he sometimes has accidents. This never happened with the other dog around, or when his people are home more. He needs a home with kids hopefully, or another dog for sure, or a retired person wanting a dog to adore them. Please help Bailey. We do not have an open foster space in the program and Bailey boy is a courtesy posting. For obvious reasons, this dog MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, tbgarner@comcast.net - if you would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

Name: Beauregard (aka BoBo)
Breed: Terrier Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Beau is a spunky, happy and outgoing Terrier mix who is a ready made best buddy for some kids or a playmate for another dog. Surrendered when his owner lost her home, this adolescent is mentally very puppy (nothing gets him down, super friendly, short attention span) but full grown already. He loves to play, loves to kiss and cuddle, and loves to make new friends. He is working on obedience and leash training, as well as basic commands, with his foster mom and is amazingly quick to pick up new tricks and games! Although he is very energetic and loves to make a game out of everything, he calms down immediately when instructed. He is happiest romping around with another canine buddy or playing fetch with a squeaky toy. He is extremely gentle with cats and is housebroken and crated for the workday. All in all, Beau is a treasure just waiting to be discovered! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email riddlel2@yahoo.com for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Blitz
Breed: Springer Spaniel Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: Blitz is a female Springer Spaniel cross puppy who came from one of the worst cases of neglect we have seen on a pup. She was covered in fleas, dirt, and waste, half starved to death. She is now flea-free though the flea bitten look and patchy fur remains, clean, and making her way to a healthy weight. She is shyer and needs a home that will help to bring her out of her shell. She doesn't yet know how to walk on a leash, play, or be a normal pup but she's coming around slowly but surely. Blitz hasn't seen the best in life but doesn't hold grudges and wants to experience life as a well-loved pet from here on out. She is good with kids and good with other pets but will protect her food bowl from them (not people though), we can't blame her being as starved as she was! She is started on her housetraining and cratetraining. She is a typical puppy and needs a home who wants to experience all of the fun puppy things...training, socialization, obedience classes, and the joy only a puppy can bring. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Are You Ready for a Puppy? Before you consider adopting a puppy, please keep in mind that puppies are a lot of work! You'll need to thoroughly puppy proof your house, bring him/her to puppy obedience classes, and socialize him/her with all sorts of people, places, & animals. The more time and energy you 'put into' a pup, the happier you'll be as they get older. Socializing: We can't emphasize enough just how crucial it will be to socialize your pup from the moment you adopt him/her. You'll need to expose your puppy to the world s/he'll be expected to live in as an adult. This means socializing him/her to all sorts of people (be sure your pup meets people from different ethnicities, as well as different clothing styles, particularly people wearing hats), places, dogs, noises, sights, situations, etc. Ideally, your pup will need to get introduced to 100 people (who aren't part of your immediate family) and 100 other dogs before s/he turns 18 weeks old. S/he will have met plenty of people/dogs during his/her stay at Homeward Bound but you'll still need to work on socializing your pup every day. If you want to adopt pup older than that, fear not! You can still socialize your pup. Start right away and proceed just as you would with a younger pup. Housetraining: Up until 4-5 months of age, their bladders cannot physically "hold it" for more than a few hours at a time. Generally a puppy can "hold it" 1 hour more than a pup's age in months. For instance, a 2-month-old puppy should be able to hold his/her bladder for 3 hours while a 5-month-old pup can hold it for 6 hours. Of course, some puppies can hold it longer while others cannot. Small breed dogs, for instance, take considerably longer to housetrain. Young children: Young puppies are generally not good matches for children under the age of 6 because all puppies nip when they play and have very sharp teeth. Pups 4 months and older should be fine with the wee ones though, so long as you know in advance that pups at this age are still going through the oral stage and like to mouth things, will nip on hands at first when playing, need a lot of attention, and are very bouncy. Chewing: All puppies chew (often until they are a year old), so make sure you buy plenty of doggie toys, bones, kongs, and have a great sense of humor! If taking care of a puppy sounds overwhelming to you, consider adopting an older pooch — they are often much, much easier and just as sweet! Our Things to Consider Before Adopting page can also help you decide whether a puppy or adult dog works best for you.

Name: Boggle (aka Rhoda) (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Shih Tzu / Yorkie Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Boggle is a 6 pound very affectionate Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix, a little peanut who loves everyone. She is one of those dogs who is always cheerful, smart, and very much a people pleaser. Boggle was an unclaimed stray and came in matted to the skin and starving. She is well mannered inside the house, leading us to believe she was once loved and trained. Boggle is fostered in a busy home with kids, cats and other dogs. She rarely barks and loves to go for walks so people can tell her how cute she is! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire.

She is started on her housetraining and cratetraining. One of the cutest things she does is 'wave' to people - ask her foster mom about it and she'll be happy to describe it - it's so darn sweet! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. Name: Brittney
Breed: Lab / Brittany Spaniel Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Brittney is a female young adult designer Lab. (We like to make her sound fancy, she is a mutt, Lab and Brittany Spaniel, the best kind!), Rescued from a stray in a pound, someone lost a dog with some manners, some smarts, and she has been well socialized. Brittney is young, about a year, and full grown at about 40 pounds. She has the most gorgeous hazel eyes, a passion for kids and other dogs, does fine with cats. After a transition period with a few accidents, she has been accident free and is crated for a 9 hour workday. Brittany is reliable off leash when attached, a hit at the park (both kid park and dog park), and is just a loving, smart puppy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Brody
Breed: Chocolate Lab
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Brody is a male adult Chocolate Lab, previously an outdoor kennel dog who has the personality every home wants for the perfect Lab. He swims, he fetches, he kisses all the kids in the neighborhood! He is housetrained, crates well for the workday, not a barker, and not a chewer. How anyone made this guy live outside rather than curled up by his family's feet we will never understand. He is mellow and calm in the house, playful in the yard. He would play fetch until your arm fell off. He is good with kids, tolerant of other dogs but would love to be your only, and cannot go with cats. Brody is absolutely the perfect Lab and we all are shocked he has not found a home yet...doesn't anyone out there want a great Lab to hang out, walk, and snuggle with? For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

Name: Bryce
Breed: Yellow Lab / Pit Bull Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Bryce is sure to steal your heart! He is a younger adult (about 2 years old) Lab/ Pit Bull mix with a big block head and an ever bigger heart of gold. He loves, loves, loves the kids and we picture him in his element with a bunch of kids to play with. His favorite thing to do is bounce through the snow with his human foster siblings and then snuggle up to warm their feet when they're inside. Bryce is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners. He is fine with other dogs, though prefers people, but cannot go to a home with cats. Bryce adores toys and will happily squeak a toy for hours on end, delighting in the goofy noise it makes. He makes everyone laugh, smile, and want to throw their arms around him and hug him. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

UPDATE: Bryce handles rescue is stride and doesn't mind it one bit but this guy is clearly used to a home. Through no fault of his own he has twice landed back in rescue. His manners in the house are wonderful, he is so much fun, and so smart. Bryce will learn anything you want to teach him and is happy to do whatever his family wants to do. He's an active guy and loves to play and run around but is content to relax next to his people at night. Bryce loves to sleep on dog beds and will sneak his way into your bed at night if you allow! He is a lover through and through and we love him for it.

Name: Bucky
Breed: Rat Terrier
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Bucky, affectionately known as Mr. Bucktooth in his foster home, is a slightly ugly, grumpy old man with a heart of pure gold! This dog worships his foster dad and waits patiently for his dad to get home from work everyday. He sits there patiently on the front steps waiting and watching. When he sees his dad pull up the driveway, oh boy! You get to see that happiest side of Bucky...he runs out to the truck and hops right in with his best friend. Then they walk into the house together and spend their evenings inseparable. Bucky loves to snuggle on laps, makes goofy grumbly noises when you hit the right scratchy spot, and is just a little love. He doesn't show this side right away of course, he likes to make sure you are worthy of his affections. Once you have earned his heart, you will never lose it though. He would do anything for those he loves. Bucky is tolerant of other pets, tolerates kids but would prefer they didn't bother him, and would love a person or a couple to love on and devote his life to. He is housetrained, crated or loose for the workday, and well mannered. He loves napping on the couch, hanging out with his favorite people, and watching the world go by from his perch in the window. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

UPDATE: Are there any truckers out there needing a loyal companion? If so, consider Bucky! Bucky LOVES to ride around in trucks and is such a faithful little shadow. He would love to go on long truck trips with his new owner!

Name: Bugsy (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Beagle
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Bugsy is an adult male Beagle, a bit on the heavier side (which means he is more mellow!) who is a Lab trapped in a Beagle body. We have yet to hear him bay or make any noise, even when his Beagle buddy Satchel tries to egg him on, he is not a food hog, very people oriented and minds his manners like the gentleman he is. He was an unclaimed stray but is in such good shape, and behaves so well, that he was obviously once loved. Bugsy does well with kids, cats and other dogs, and is one of the very few Beagles we'd send to a home with shared walls.

Name: Camden
Breed: Lab / Poodle Cross?
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Camden is an adolescent Labradoodle or Giant Schnauzer mix (best guess anyway!), a quieter and sweet boy weighing about 45 pounds at 8 months of age. He is a baby still, but low key, patient, super loving with kids and other pets. He has not had a good life yet, he spent most of it outside in a pen and is only now learning the luxuries of being a house dog... and man does he like it! He is quickly catching onto the housetraining, likes the other dogs, and does fine crated for an 8 hour workday. He walks well on the leash, rarely barks, and is on the low to moderate energy level. He is a scruffy mess to look at, but with some polish and TLC he will shine. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, you can email Nicci.lee@hotmail.com. Name: Casper (aka Jordan)
Breed: Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Casper is a male adult Shepherd mix, about 40 pounds, really an outgoing and well socialized dog who loves everyone and everything... except cats. No cats for him, please! Casper is housetrained, crate trained, and handling the absolute chaos of his many kid, many dog, much noise and people traffic very well. He almost seems to thrive on it! He would do best with a yard or a daily walker/runner, he has some energy to burn but is very low key inside the house. He is smart, patient, sweet and beautiful... what more can you ask for? For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Chanel
Breed: Heinz 57
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Why is Chanel smiling so hugely? It's because she came to MN to try to find the ' MN nice' she has heard so very much about. Chanel was turned into animal control and found to be heartworm positive, which doesn't scare us off... we have great vets who work to get them all cleared up and on the mend so they can live normal, healthy lives. This medium sized dog is incredible. Patient, playful but not at all hyper, gentle lazy tail wagging girl. She is about a year old, loves kids, and does great with other dogs as well. She has the serious potential for a new fur best friend for a family. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You may email sonflower85@hotmail.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

What is Heartworm Treatment? We treat well over 100 heartworm positive dogs each year... it is pretty common here right now. Basically, a dog should be on a monthly preventative for heartworm from April-October, or during mosquito season. It is passed through mosquito bites. Dogs who are not on the preventative run the risk of getting heartworm, or works that grow in their heart and eventually strangle the heart if not treated. Treatment is extremely expensive (with a discount, it runs us between $400-500 per dog to treat) but very successful. However, for those dogs, it is especially important to have them on preventative, as to get it again means their heart is weakened more quickly. Basically if they test positive, our vet does 2 injections of Immiticide, 24 hours apart. That is a poison injected through the muscles near their hips into the blood stream that as it pumps through the heart, it kills the worms. Dogs with more severe heartworm get 3 injections, spaced out more, so the treatment is milder on them. Side effects are a cough (they feel icky for a week), soreness at the injection site (it is a HUGE needle going through lots of muscle), and knowing you cannot test again for 6 months or it will show a positive... it takes 6-8 months to clear completely from their system. They have a moderate exercise requirement for 6 weeks following treatment. They can do walks, play in the yard, but no super strenuous exercise and have to be kept out of extreme heat for more than short periods. Most go on to lead very normal, healthy lives... if they have had it for years and it is severe, it can take more than one treatment, or cause heart enlargement that is permanent.

Name: Chaos
Breed: Boxer Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: Chaos is a spunky, little Boxer mix pup with a perfectly puppy personality! She is hilarious as she runs around the yard at her foster home with the other dogs and then runs into the house to steal the best spot next to the kids! Chaos is a smart, smart puppy and is catching onto the housetraining and cratetraining with ease. She loves to play, loves the kids, loves the dogs, and loves pretty much everything in the world! She is fostered with kids, cats, and other dogs and does well with all. She is an amazing little puppy and going to make someone very happy. She is a typical puppy and needs a home who wants to experience all of the fun puppy things...training, socialization, obedience classes, and the joy only a puppy can bring. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Charlie (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Shepherd / Lab Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Charlie is a mature Shepherd/Lab cross given up by his owner due to lack of time and energy to care for him. So this poor older gentleman ended up joining the ranks of rescue. He has amazing manners. He is housetrained, crated for the workday, not a barker, and knows some basic commands. He is smart as can be, loyal to his family beyond anything else, and all around a terrific dog. He is fine with the other dogs, fine with kids, and tolerates the cats. He is all around a great companion! Charlie doesn't require much...a soft bed, a person or family to love, and he sure loves his rawhides. If you think you can give a well-mannered gentleman a soft spot to lay his head please email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only.

Name: Charlie 2
Breed: English Redtick Coonhound
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Are you looking for a buddy? how about me? I am a very handsome 17 month old, 65 lb English (Redtick) Coonhound, who loves to go for a jog at the lake, go on hikes, wrestle with other dogs, and learn new tricks! I am extremely food-motivated and intelligent, so I learn very quickly. I know lots of obedience commands, I'm neutered, up to date on all shots, and I even ring a bell at the back door when I have to go potty. I am very energetic and would love to find an active family who will share my enthusiasm for the outdoors, I'm not really a crate kind of guy. I bond strongly with my family, so I will need a family whose members are strong pack leaders to show me that they are in charge. I love playing with all kinds of dogs and would love a home with other doggie siblings to wrestle with, but this is not a requirement. I am also a hound through and through, which means I love to follow my nose, so a home with a fenced yard is a must for me! I am a very sweet and smart boy and would make a playful and loving addition to your home. Won't you think about adopting me? For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Chauncey and Jenner
Breed: Pointer / Lab Crosses
Age: Adult
Gender: 2 Males
Description: Remember your best friend in elementary school and how you would want to do everything with them? Well, that kind of friendship is much what these 2 brothers share. They are dogs who love each other so much that we would love for them to be adopted together. It will take someone with an extra large heart, willing to open their home to 2 shyer, gentle dogs but we are hoping someone out there can find the time, love, and patience to give these 2 brothers a happy ever after together. They do everything together: potty, eat, sleep, share a kennel, snuggle up when it's cold, and even like to take walks right next to one another. They are shy dogs, life has not been kind to them but they bond hard once they know you and they get so excited to see their foster mom that they hit each other in the face with their wagging tails! It will take patience and time and treats but they will certainly bond with someone else as well. They are housetrained on a schedule, cratetrained, and so quiet they never make a fuss in the house. Because of their shyness, they would do best with a physically fenced yard. It would be excellent to get them into an obedience class for shyer dogs or have someone work with them on confidence building. Once they get to know someone and trust, they show how much they love you daily and are very loyal. We have seen so many shy dogs come around in their forever homes to be loyal, loving companions and we know they will too. They have come so far in rescue and are such sweet boys that we hope someone with a big heart full of love, time, and patience comes along and sees the special potential we all see in Jenner and Chauncey. Jenner is missing a chunk of his ear...he got too close to an unfriendly dog and lost part of an ear because of it. He doesn't care that it's gone and thinks it gives him a tough guy look even though he's really one of the most gentle, wimpy dogs we've ever met! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

UPDATE: These guys are coming so, so far. Chauncey is usually brave enough to venture out on a walk with his foster family by himself and Jenner is beginning to be excited to see people. Amazing what some love, treats, and patience can do! They still require a home with some patience to help them adjust but they have shown tremendous progress already and their potential is endless with someone who is willing to be patient and put the time into bringing them out of their shells even more.

Name: Chelsea
Breed: Beagle
Age: Senior
Gender: Female
Description: Chelsea is a beautiful, older Beagle mix looking for a loving home who wants a gentle, loving gal. She is perfect with little kids and other pets, so patient with everyone, and downright amazing. She is housetrained, cratetrained, has wonderful house manners, and is reliable off leash once she bonds. Chelsea is a special dog for many reasons. Her amazing personality is obviously the first thing that makes her special. The next is that she is deaf. That's right, this beautiful girl is deaf. It doesn't stop her from anything and she sure doesn't care. She doesn't have to be able to hear to find a lap to cuddle in or a person to love! Chelsea doesn't have any special requirements from being deaf, just her owners realizing it and not expecting her to be able to hear them! She is a great dog, overlooked because she is a bit older but Beagles live a long time and she is determined to spend the rest of her long life loving her new family. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Chet
Breed: Black Lab
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Chet is a happy, goofball of a young lab who has a serious case of Peter Pan syndrome. He is the happiest dog to ever come into rescue from a high kill pound...he seems to know he escaped death by his amazing personality. Chet loves everyone. He loves the other dogs with such a passion that even the grouchy ones can't help but love him too. He loves the kids though can kiss the little ones flat to the ground in love. He loves to meet new people, loves to go for walks, loves to relax with his family and chew on a bone. Chet defines love. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates for the workday, and not a barker. He is puppyish still so needs a home wanting to do some training but he is an eager learner and wants so badly to please. His leash manners stink but put in the time and he'll be walking like a pro in no time. You can't help but love this happy guy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: ChiChi
Breed: Cane Corso
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: ChiChi is a very sweet and loving female Cane Corso. She is black brindle and weighs about 100 pounds. Mastiff lovers will love her, as she is every bit Mastiff. If you are not familiar with the breed and their personalities please read up on them before considering adoption because they aren't for everyone. However, those who are Mastiff people swear by the breed and are forever hooked! ChiChi's energy level is moderate and she does fine just having a fenced in yard for daily exercise. She's very affectionate and is a true guardian dog. She lived with another dog prior to coming into rescue and did fine with her, and would be happiest if she could be top dog. The other dog should also be larger than 25 pounds - anything smaller than that looks like a squirrel to this big girl! She needs to live in a cat-free house and would be happiest in an adult-only home as well. She's a great dog for the right home - her foster home has great things to say about her! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Chico
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: Adult

Description: Chico is an adult male Chihuahua who is desperately seeking an adult, quiet home where he can be the little King he knows he truly is. Chico has small dog syndrome, meaning he is sure he is a Rottweiler when other dogs get too rough, struts around like he is all that and a bag of chips, and is a little macho man. However, at heart he is a softy and wants to be held and cuddled and taken away from this rescue mess! He is housetrained, quiet in the crate, does fine with other dogs and cats, and wants a home who recognizes how awesome he is. He weighs all of 4 pounds. Name: Chico 2
Breed: Aussie / Collie Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Chico's name doesn't quite suit him, but that is the one and only thing we don't like! He is a big boy, the size of a (very chubby) Retriever, but beautifully trained inside, loves the kids, mellow but will play. He has been told by seriously dozens of people who meet him what a great therapy dog he would make. Reliable off leash outside once attached, housetrained, no chewing, had some training, middle aged so settled, would love walks and dog park time but also is not going to be a spaz on days he misses them. He is on a diet, he is about 10 pounds too heavy...it happens to the best of us :) Chico was surrendered when his owner passed away, and has known love and care his whole life. He is a large dog, but so laid back he doesn't really take up much space. We want to name him Mellow, or Chill, or Zen, or something! That would fit this dog, he fits himself right in anywhere and just makes himself at home. If you have questions or would like to meet Chico, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. Name: Chief (aka BoGo)
Breed: Boxer / Boston Terrier Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Chief is a Boston Terrier on steroids...not really but he sure looks it! This big guy is quick to love, quick to be happy, and quick with a kiss once he knows you. Poor Chief spent some time as a stray and sure paid for it dearly, coming in with quite a few scars from his days on the street. His personality sure isn't hurt by it though...he is a bit nervous being grabbed for fast but always gentle and happy. He is fostered with other dogs and does well with them all...he loves to snuggle on the couch with his foster sister. He is good with older kids (10+), bonds hard to his owners, and is very loyal. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well, and lives to please those he loves. He thinks he is a lap dog and loves to snuggle! If you have room in your home for a big soft-hearted, goofy giant Boston Terrier, check out Chief. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Description: One, two, three...aawwww! Look at those ears! Clementine is a cute hound puppy with the big floppy ears, the goofy nature, and the always happy, slightly dopey disposition of a hound. She might be one of the cutest pups we have ever seen. She was rescued the day she was scheduled to die from a high kill pound and is so thrilled to be alive. She is excellent with kids, cats, and other dogs. Name: Clifford
Breed: Shepherd / Collie Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Dumber than a box of rocks but happier than a smiley face...that's Clifford. He goes through life with his heart in the lead without stopping to think. On some dogs this would be annoying but with Clifford it is hilarious and incredibly sweet. You see his heart always tells him to love people and want to please them. Sometimes he misreads what would please his people, like when he grabbed his foster dad's underwear and ran down the hall to play but it sure made his foster mom laugh! Clifford loves people with all his heart and swears he is a lap dog. He is good with female dogs (tolerates the males but acts a bit like a jealous boyfriend if he has to live with them) and cannot be placed with cats. He is good with kids and very friendly. Though he isn't the brighest bulb, he quickly picked up the housetraining and is now accident free, crates well for the workday, and is not a barker. Clifford is a goofy, happy dog waiting to spread the love and cheer to a new home. He needs some training but he wants to learn...he isn't a genius by any stretch of the imagination but he'll sure learn things if it would make his people happy! We have had him in foster care and never seen a problem with him, he is always a cheerful, happy dog. Name: Crispin
Breed: Lab / Pointer Cross
Age: Adult

Description: Crispin is a male Lab/Pointer type cross, a southern rescue dog who has grown up in a pen with as much TLC as the person could give, but it wasn't enough for socializing and he is a shy, sensitive, sweet boy. Pretty much scared of his shadow, it is so cute to watch him work to be brave. He has an easier time with the kids for some reason, maybe because they are smaller? The ideal home for Crispin is with another dog, a fenced yard, and someone with patience to help him gain confidence and be brave. He is a cowardly lion of a dog, but he sure is a sweet dog! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Daphne
Breed: Retriever Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Daphne is a young adult female Retriever mix, the life of the party at the dog park and kid lover like you have never seen! We don't think anything gets this girl down. She is playful, spunky, happy, and so smart. Badly neglected before coming to us (lived her life in a small pen and never was interacted with), you'd expect a shy dog. Not her... she hugs, she kisses, she loves everyone. The housetraining is coming along with another dog in the home, she is highly dependent on another dog for her training for now as she copies them and everything they do. She is about 75% housetrained right now and is crated for the workday. Daphne is very puppy mentally still, would benefit from training and exercise. She is full grown at 40 pounds. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Libby at libby7521@hotmail.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Darla
Breed: Heinz 57
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: Darla is a darling female mixed breed puppy, and your guess to breed is as good as ours. Estimated to mature at about 40 pounds or so, this smart little girl is one of the most highly trainable pups we have ever seen. She has this soft, sensitive temperament which makes her incredible easy to train... her main goal is to make you happy. Darla is fostered in a busy home with little kids, cats and other dogs and does very well. She is working on housetraining, crates for the workday and gets along so well with everyone she meets. Our requirement for her adoption is we need to see pictures (or her!) as an adult! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Demetri
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Looking for a dog park dog, or a canine companion to an existing dog? Demetri is a Black Lab mix, a happy guy with an amazing attitude, a high tolerance for chaos, and a love of every person and dog he meets (he likes the bigger dogs best though). Watchdog he is not! He is currently fostered in a busy home with lots of people, especially kids, coming and going and he is always happy. Demetri is housetrained, crate trained, very smart and happy. He could use some improvement with the leash manners, but we all need to work on something, right? He is so sweet. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

Name: Dice
Breed: Dalmatian
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Dice is a young adult male Dalmatian with one dazzling blue eye and one melting brown eye. He has had a hard life, and is now learning his manners and how to function as a pet. He sure is enjoying these life lessons! Dice is a lover, he wants attention and to be cuddling and kissing and going places with you. Dice is housetrained and crate trained, working on how to meet new canine friends (he has previously lived as an only pet by our guess) and loves having a yard to romp and play in. He likes the kids a lot, too. Dice would love a home who wants a dog to be involved in everyday activities, one who will continue with training and socializing, and a home tough enough to enforce some boundaries without taking away his spirit. He's way past time to have a decent life. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Dixie (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: German Shepherd / Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Dixie is a young adult female German Shepherd / Golden Lab mix, a family friendly, kid loving, smart and willing dog. She is used to small kids and other pets in the home, and is already housetrained and crate trained. Dixie was an unclaimed stray, and spent several weeks at the pound waiting to be noticed and saved. Luckily someone did, and sent her our way. She is heartworm positive, so the original rescue who wanted her backed out. Poor Dixie.... it's such a treatable thing, and we plan to do that so she can live a normal, happy, healthy life. If you want a dog who plays when you want to, cuddles like a champ and is always ready to do whatever you ask of her, meet sweet Dixie. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Dottie
Breed: Fox Terrier / Rat Terrier Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Dottie is an adult Fox Terrier/ Rat Terrier mix who is an amazing little companion and friend. She is the perfect blend of playful and loving to snuggle. If you want to go for a walk, there she is! If you want to relax and watch a movie, there she is to snuggle right in next to you! Dottie is good with kids 6+, housetrained on a schedule, cratetrained, and knows some basic commands. She is good with other smaller dogs and all male dogs but does not like to share her home with larger female dogs...she likes to be the boss of the girl dogs of the house! This is the reason she is being surrendered...she does not care for the larger female dog in the house. Otherwise she is terrific, fine with the other dogs out and about. She loves to visit dog parks, go for walks, and play. She loves toys that squeak and will jump about 10 feet in the air when she sees her leash come out. Dottie is going to make someone an absolutely amazing companion! She has been well loved and trained her whole life. This dog does not attend pet adoptions. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. He is housetrained, crated for the workday, not a barker and takes his job of shadow dog very seriously. There is nothing in the world he likes more than being cuddled up with his person. He is a little shy in new situations, and is used to an adult/older child home. Eddie does great with other dogs and with cats, and is not at all a yappy, snappy little dog. He is so cute! Description: Ellie is a beautiful wiggly girl full of energy and love. Ellie loves everybody, and wants nothing but to find her forever home amongst all of her temporary ones! She loves going for walks, and is pretty good on a leash. She is a 55 lb dog that thinks she is sometimes a lap dog, we think she gets it from the dachshunds. She is VERY smart, and easily trainable. She might even make a great hunting dog! She points at everything, and says, 'Look what I found!' Ellie would be happiest in a home with children to run and play with, and maybe another dog. She would LOVE to go through an obedience class, since she loves to please her people. Ellie is housetrained and kennel trained and has been working on obedience. Pretty much scared of her shadow, it is so cute to watch her work to be brave. She has an easier time with the kids for some reason, maybe because they are smaller? The ideal home for Ember is with another dog, a fenced yard, and someone with patience to help her gain confidence and be brave. She is a cowardly lion of a dog, but she sure is a sweet dog! Age: Adult

Description: Give Foxy a week or two to get settled, and you will have a loyal companion that will worship you forever! She is shy at first, especially around men, but she warms up to calm, gentle women quickly, and thinks that 3 year olds give the best hugs ever! She is so patient with children of all ages, and other dogs. She doesn't seek them out to play, but appreciates attention. When she is being shy, she will warm up to the person that is offering her the yummiest treats. She is not high energy, and her favorite thing is sitting by her favorite person outside in the shade, or by your feet while watching TV. She is housebroken, doesn't chew or bark, walks well on a leash, and you never have to tell her no twice. She is so smart and a good listener. She is a very special, quiet, well mannered dog, if you give her the chance to get to know you and get over her initial shyness. Patient, quiet and sweet, that's Foxy! Name: Friday

Description: Who doesn't love Friday? That's how this girl got her name...we all can't help but love her. She is a beautiful female Chocolate Lab who is everything you would expect from a Lab. Water loving, kid-friendly, dog park queen, loyal, and a great combination of being smart but with a huge heart full of love. Friday hasn't been well taken care of recently, as shown by her horribly neglected coat but her personality is second to none. She needs some training, yes, but the mind and the heart for it are there. All she needs is a person wanting to put in the time to polish her up. She is a very friendly, affectionate girl. She is housetrained, crates for the workday well, and is reliable off leash once attached to her home. If you think you'd like a little Friday everyday, come meet this gal. Description: Gavin is a 12 week poofball, laid back, totally chill Collie mix puppy with an attitude that is out of this world mellow. We all want to keep him for ourselves! He is absolutely adorable following the toddler around at his foster home. He does play, but is so lazy and mellow it is sort of in slow motion. He would follow his kids to the end of the earth though, and does great with cats and other dogs. He is very much a wimp, perfectly happy to let everyone else tell him what to do. Housetraining is going well, not sure if it is him or the foster doing so well but he is about 80% trained, and is crated for the workday. She is hearing impaired, and watches you to see what is expected of her. For this reason, a fenced yard or leashed at all times outside is necessary. He is good with other cats, okay with other dogs, and goos with kids ages 8+. Gilly is a little shy and needs a home willing to be patient with him and help him overcome his shyness. He takes a bit to warm up to new people. You see, Gilly has been bounced around for the past couple months: the pound, a shelter, vet, foster homes, etc. He doesn't really know whether this is his permanent forever home or another stop along the way. Give him some time to adjust and he's an amazing little companion but it does take a little time and patience. If you have some extra time and love to bring a shyer dog out of his shell, you'll be rewarded with an absolutely wonderful little companion. He loves to play with the other dogs, play tricks on the cats, and scamp happily around the house getting into good ol' puppy mischief. Gnocci and his siblings are Rat Terrier mixes came into rescue after their momma was hit and killed by a car when they were only three weeks old. Luckily, we had a nursing momma with puppies the same age that happily accepted the pups into her family. Gnocci's breed is a complete guess. However, being that a Labrador momma (and her pups that are the same age and twice their size) raised the trio, we guess them to be around 25lbs full grown. (my ears don't actually stand up. Name: Gucci
Breed: Beagle / Terrier Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Male
Description: Gucci is a fancy name for this cute little black and white Beagle mix boy. He was saved just days before he was scheduled to die in an overcrowded pound and boy is he glad to escape with his life. He thinks its his job to give everyone in the world a big kiss as a thank you! He's a funny, happy pup who is everything you'd expect from a little guy his age. He loves toys, loves playing with the other dogs, loves the kids, and wants so badly to play with the cats until they hiss and smack him (yet he still will go back for more every time!) He is started on his housetraining and cratetraining both of which are coming along well. He is a typical puppy and needs a home who wants to experience all of the fun puppy things...training, socialization, obedience classes, and the joy only a puppy can bring. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Harley
Breed: Basset Hound / German Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Harley is a Dr. Seuss sort of dog... apparently a Basset Hound met a German Shepherd and there was some loving going on. She very much has the typical Basset go with the flow personality. She is great with the other dogs and loves to play, she doesn't love to share her bones with them but otherwise loves them! She lives for her walks, does a happy hopping dance when she sees her leash come out. She is relaxed in the house, loves to snuggle, and spends most of her days patrolling the backyard for squirrels and napping in the sunshinie near her people. She is housetrained, crate trained, and playful and always good for a laugh. Harley does not appreciate kids in her space so needs a teenager/adult only home. She cannot be placed with cats. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. If you have questions, you can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Harriet
Breed: Terrier Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Harriet is a lady who feels that people should work hard to get the best things in life. She had to work really hard, first to survive the hurricanes and come to MN, and then to overcome her fears in order to be adoptable. Harriet has blossomed so much with us. This 35 pound Terrier mix is so bonded to her foster mom, and is a very happy, outgoing, normal dog at her home. She has learned to nicely walk on the leash, she is housetrained with a routine, crates quietly, and is friendly and social with the kids and cats there. She likes the kids and the treats they drop, but Harriet is a 'woman's dog' all the way. What Harriet seeks is a confident, calm person to show her what is expected, be clear and consistent, and they'll have a lifelong case of hero worship on them. She needs a natural leader, a calm confident person to lead the way so she can safely follow. She tolerates other dogs just fine, likes the ones who allow her her space as she does for them, but would do fine as an only dog also. The fenced yard is ideal, but for a committed walker she would be ok. The best home in the world is one who has some experienced with abused/insecure dogs, wants a dog who will give their entire heart and soul to them, and has the patience to allow some time to transition. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire..

Name: Heidi
Breed: Shih Tzu
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Heidi is a female adult Shih Tzu rescued from a life of neglect. Trapped in a wire pen with other dogs and some cats, mange had eaten away her hair and caused infection in her skin and she was nothing but skin and bones from lack of food. We thought she'd be shy, or snappy, or odd, but Heidi is so sweet. Her foster home has nursed her back to health and she's ready for adoption now! Known as 'Lil Stinky' or 'Snort' to her foster family, she can be bit standoffish at first but once she gets to know you she shows that she still has trust for people and a lot of love to share. She is quiet and easy, very gentle, gets along with everyone. Every so often she gets her spunk on and tears around playing with toys, bones, the other dogs, anything that she can get her paws on. And then just as quickly she settles down and goes back into hang out mode. She is house trained and crate trained. She rarely barks, is a quiet shadow at your heels, and quite content to just 'be.' Before foster care she had never in her life known love and care, and with a personality like hers she deserves to be treated like a princess.

Name: Herbie
Breed: Havanese
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Herbie the Havanese is a breeder 'reject', a shyer and sweet natured 9 pound Havanese seeking a home of his own, one where he can be a pet instead of a number in a kennel. This breeder took better care of their dogs than most of the ones that land in rescue, they are clean and healthy and sweet. The one trait he does have is shyness, and a need to have patience with housetraining. Herbie would do best with another dog and a fence as he does not walk on the leash well yet, and is a quiet, cuddly, wants badly to trust little boy. Breeder 'rejects' take a special home, as they are work to housetrain, work to socialize, and take someone with time and patience. We have high hopes for him as we already see progress with him.

Name: Hope
Breed: Collie Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Hope is a sweet collie mix who has had the worst in life. Badly neglected and abused she was found to have an old break in her hip and ACL tear. Both had healed and are past the point of pain but may cause some arthritis when she gets old. Hope's personality hasn't suffered a bit though. She is amazing with the kids, fine with the other dogs, and does fine with cats. She is housetrained and not a barker. Hope does have a special requirement for her new home. She doesn't like to be kenneled alone so either needs a home where she can safely stay outside when her owners are away, someone who is home more often than not, or someone who has another dog for her to share a cage with. A small requirement for such an amazing dog! She is a gentle, mellow dog who so far has been looking for love in all the wrong places and has been bounced around far too much. She deserves a loving home to finally call her own. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

Now 8 weeks old, these babies are ready to go their separate ways. They have been showered with love, and are extremely happy, loving, social little babies. They are incredibly smart, pee pee pad trained, and their tails are always wagging. They have been raised with kids, cats, and other dogs, and love everyone they meet. Name: Isis
Breed: German Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Meet Isis, a middle aged well mannered girl who is seeking a calm, couch potato home where she can cuddle up and be her mellow self. Isis is an unclaimed stray and someone spent time with her, it is obvious in her gentle calm demeanor and her beautiful house manners. She is housetrained, LOVES the little kids in the home (is so sweet with the baby), good with other pets but prefers to avoid the rowdy ones. She herself is such a lady that she expects the other pets to behave with dignity also. She ignores cats and even the caged pets at the foster home. This dog is exceptional, she may be passed over repeatedly by her looks but wow do you have a treasure temperment and training wise. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Jasmine
Breed: Boxer
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Jasmine is the sweetest girl, ending up in rescue due to no fault of her own. Her family lost their home and put Jasmine and her 2 Boxer 'sisters' in boarding hoping to find a spot for all of them to live in the meantime. Jasmine waited for her family for over 4 months and when they quit paying for her to stay there, the vet said he was going to call animal control to come pick them up. Lucky for Jasmine and her friends, a really great rescuer stepped up to help get them in to a rescue before going to animal control to face their gloomy fate. Jasmine may have a few years on her but she is still so full of life and handles everything in stride. She's obedient, easy going, quite, not a chewer, loves kids, other dogs and even gets along well with cats. She is also housebroken and cratetrained but can be left loose as well. Her foster home keeps telling us just how perfect this girl is! Jasmine is a bigger girl, right around 70 pounds but is so mellow. She would do well in an apartment or a town house as well. She is very deserving of a home of her own! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

Name: Jasper
Breed: Beagle
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Jasper is a Beagle who was rescued from living a life in a cage supposed to produce hunting Beagles. All this boy wants to hunt out is the best place to sun himself out in the yard, a person to pet him, and a soft place to sleep. He is everything a good beagle should be...goofy, adventurous, and happy. Jasper holds no grudges despite his neglect. He is happy to see everyone, good with kids, loves the other dogs, and is respectful of the cats who are willing to stand up for themselves. He is working hard on his housetraining, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners (besides liking the garbage...he is a Beagle!). He needs a home with a fenced yard for him to explore or someone willing to walk him daily. He have never had a chance to explore the world the way a dog should get to and he absolutely loves it. His joy as he got to run around the yard at his foster home was indescribable and made everyone want to run around with him and experience that same joy. If you think you can show Jasper all the great things a world has to offer, please email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only.

He's a small dog in a big dog body so if you're looking for big dog personality but have size limits, Jeff is your dog! He's housetrained, crates well for the workday, good with other pets, great with the kids, and super smart. He would be an amazing agility, obedience, or flyball dog. We all think he's absolutely wonderful here and are sure you will too! He's about 2 years old and 25 lbs. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Jiggs
Breed: Boxer
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Boxer lovers be careful since Jiggs is sure to steal your heart! He won his way out of a high kill shelter with his amaing personality and pleading eyes and won his way into all our hearts already. He is an adult male Boxer, fawn in color who came into the pound thin as a rail. Though he clearly hadn't been fed in a while his personality remained absolutely amazing. He took food gently from his rescuers hands, ate his food and immediately kissed everyone near him from head to toe in thanks. This guy is grateful for any kind word, petting, or scrap of food coming his way and is such a sweetheart. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, not a chewer, not a barker, and so eager to please his owners. He hasn't had a great deal of training but his eagerness to please and intelligence makes him a quick learner. He gets along good with kids and is good with other dogs. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

UPDATE Jiggs has amazed his foster home. In good ways (he is so well mannered inside, and his gentle calm demeanor with the baby in the home as well as the other pets just is heart melting) as well as not so good ways ( he jumped the 4 foot fence, but then went and found his foster mom right away, so not a runner!). He is so sweet, and is almost human in his wise soul and empathy for everyone. He is just so cool. Not a bad habit to him, besides the fence jumping ( which is fine if you don't have a fence!) and he is sure the couch is meant for his skinny tired bones. He has been not fed well, heartworm positive which is being treated, and maintains such an amazing temperament is it mind boggling. This is a one in a million dog, don't pass this guy by.

Name: Kelty
Breed: Black Lab / Bulldog Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Kelty's foster mom cannot understand why week after week Kelty gets passed over. She is one of the most fun, happiest, playful dogs she has ever had the pleasure to foster! Kelty loves to play fetch and if you show her a tennis ball you have her undivided attention and focus. She is the best fetch player we have ever seen. She is housetrained, crates for the workday, not a chewer, and so smart. She loves to have her belly rubbed, be snuggled, and give kisses. If you don't think a 65 lb dog should be in your lap Kelty is not the dog for you! She adores people with all her heart, is good with kids (though big enough to knock the little ones down in love and play). She is good with other dogs but doesn't like to share her toys with them though respects the dominant dogs at her foster home very well. With people she shares like a champ and often will bring toys and bones to her foster mom as 'gifts'. She walks nicely on a choke collar, knows how to sit and lay down, is reliable off leash once she knows you, and is working on other commands as well. She is best guessed to be a Lab/ Bulldog mix...she has the Lab love to fetch and the bulldog snorting, snoring, and grunting when you hit that just right scratching spot! Kelty has been with Homeward Bound for 2 years and there is not a single reason she should have to spend another minute without a forever home. She is wonderful. You can see more pictures and video of Kelty here http://s794.photobucket.com/ albums/yy226/lberg05/Kelty/. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

UPDATE: Kelty doesn't like to swim but she sure loves to eat the water out of the hose! You can watch her silly water antics yourself at http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=ouzHBhW1190. She is one of her foster mom's favorite foster dogs ever...and that's sure saying a lot. She is always happy, energetic, smart, and loyal. She is housetrained, crates well, not a barker, not a chewer except on her own toys, and fun. She loves to carry around plushy toys in her mouth, fetch tennis balls for hours, and go running with her foster mom. Don't think Kelty is non-stop play though, she loves to snuggle too. She'll hop up in her foster mom's lap and sleeps every night with her head on her foster mom's pillow. She is reliable off leash once attached, knows how to sit, and is working so hard on learning not to jump up. Expect some tears from her foster mom and others here when Kelty finds a home, she is that special to a lot of us!

I'm a spotlight dog! Please check out my blog page to learn more about how wonderful I am http://www.homewardbounddogrescue.blogspot.com/!

Name: Kira
Breed: Belgian Malinois / Black German Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Kira is a 4 year old Belgian Malinois/ German Shepherd who is intense, intelligent, and driven. She is everything you would expect from a combo of her breeds! She is housetrained reliably, well mannered in the house as long as she gets her exercise, and crated for the workday. She hates being crated and left alone so needs someone who is home more often than not and a reinforced cage for when they do leave. Kira is incredibly intelligent, knows tons of tricks and commands, and has a strong desire to learn more. She needs a home committed to working with her daily...training, exercising her mentally and physically, and giving her a job to keep her occupied. She is not a dog content to relax by your feet but with an owner who understands her breeds she is the dog who can carry your laundry to the hamper, turn lights on/off on cue, 'patrol' the house once around at night to make sure everything is secure, put all the dog toys back in the bin, and more. Her potential for learning is endless. She is high drive meaning she cannot go to a home with kids, cats, or small animals. She would prefer very much to be your one and only dog though she tolerates submissive large dogs. Kira needs a home that has experience with highly intelligent, driven working breeds like the Malinois. She is not the dog for everyone but in the right home, her potential has no limits. Go to http://s794.photobucket.com/albums/ yy226/lberg05/Kira/ to see more pictures of Kira! You can email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net for more information. Name: Kuna
Breed: Malamute
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Kuna is a wonderful adult male Malamute, who is a big-dopey guy. Once he puts some weight on he will be easily 100lbs. Kuna needs a home with big dog experience (100+ pounds). Kuna also needs a home with a physically fenced yard. He gets along well with the dogs in his foster home. However, he is an alpha male and would do best in a single dog home, or with another large, submissive dog. Kuna is one giant sweetheart with all people, but would do best in a home with no small children simply due to his size. He is housebroken, does not need to be crated, and knows how to sit and shake. He loves riding in the car with his head out the window and his lips flapping in the wind. He loves to cuddle, and sleeps in bed with his foster parents (he takes up a lot of room, haha). Kuna has a great personality, and loves to play and wrestle. He is being fostered with cats, and although curious, has left them alone for the most part, so would do OK in a home with cats who have been raised with dogs.

Name: Lacey
Breed: Rat Terrier Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lacey is a female adult Rat Terrier mix, recently rescued from life as a puppy mill. This shyer girl takes a bit to warm up, but once in your arms she snuggles right in, happy as can be for any attention. She is excellent with other dogs and cats, and tolerates dog savvy kids of all ages although prefers the predicability of adults. The ideal home for a mill rescue dog is one with a fenced yard, another dog to show them the ropes of how to be a normal dog, and a patient, committed owner who understands that these dogs have been through lifelong trauma and are extra deserving of the time and effort it takes to break the shyness. She is working on housetraining, keeps her crate clean for the workday, and is very quiet. For obvious reasons, this dog MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Kathy at klbruen@msn.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. Lacey does not attend all pet adoptions. She will not be at the Feb 6th adoption.

Name: Lacey Jane
Breed: Hound Cross
Age: Puppy

Description: Lacey Jane is a southern wild child, full of sass and fun. She is one of the most kid friendly, other dog loving pups we've ever met. She adores having someone to play with, thinks running around the yard with a toy in her mouth, a bunch of people and other dogs chasing her is like her own little piece of heaven. Lacey Jane is great with everyone she meets and looking for a home who wants a fun puppy, full of spunk and energy to complete their life. She does love to relax inside and snuggle with her family as well! She is started on her housetraining and cratetraining both of which are coming along great. She is a typical puppy and needs a home who wants to experience all of the fun puppy things...training, socialization, obedience classes, and the joy only a puppy can bring.

Name: Lady (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Red Lab
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lady the Red Lab is exactly that, very much a lady. She has the refined, graceful, dainty look to her (although she is a tall girl) and the gentle, quiet, serene temperament you'd expect from a southern lady. Lady and 12 others were dumped at a very caring shelter by an owner who simply did not want them any more. Is this maybe why she sits so long and soaks up any attention given to her? She is so grateful and appreciative of every gesture of kindness shown. Lady LOVES the kids, will sit for hours while the little ones hang on her. She is kissy with the kitties and submissive and sweet with other dogs. Lady has not had a lot of life experiences, so things like steps, walks, tile floors, vacuums are all new. She is brave though, or tries hard to be! Her housetraining is going really well, although we have more success going out with her. Now that she has had a taste of indoor life, she plants herself right at the door otherwise and waits to come back inside. Lady leads with her heart, and with some life experience her brain will catch up. We all adore her, it's hard not to fall in love with this one. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Lady Sparks
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lady Sparks is a silly name for a tiny, shy Chihuahua. She weighs all of about 6 lbs and when she is scared she'll curl herself into a tiny ball and appear even smaller. This poor girl has not seen the best in life and the chaos of rescue absolutely overwhelms her. She is nervous to be picked up but once she is in someone's arms she just relaxes and you can almost feel her relief yourself. Sparks is working on her housetraining, crates well for the workday and often retreats to her crate as her safe place, and is not a barker. She is good with other dogs, fine with cats, but because of her shyness is a little too nervous for young children (under 10). Sparks needs someone to show her the good life...she warms up fast, just needs someone to put in the time and patience. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Lana
Breed: Pointer / Hound Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lana is a female adult Pointer/Hound mix, a laid back quiet sweetie who adores the kids, is great with other pets, and wants a home to adore her. She is well housetrained, crated for the workday in a plastic crate and she sleeps the day away, and loves her dog park time and walks. Lana is calm in chaos, and handles new things in stride. She is fine with cats as well. Lana can find her way out of a yard if left out unsupervised for long periods, either flips the latch or finds a way under the fence. If she has another dog out there, or is out for limited times, she remains in the area fine... never jumps or climbs it. Lana will counter surf for smelly treats and find open the garbage, but other than those things she is perfect. Always gentle, always patient, always ready to do what is asked of her. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

Name: Layla
Breed: Lab Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Layla is a petite 40 pound female Lab cross, 2 years old and sweet as can be. She is more on the quiet side, althought she melts into a mushpile with kids around. Layla is housetrained, crate trained, gentle and well behaved. She was left at a shelter when she was found to be heartworm positive, but it is now treated and she is ready to go home! Layla would be a very good first time family dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email sonflower85@hotmail.com.

Name: Libby
Breed: Australian Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Libby is an adult female Australian Shepherd type mix, about 50 pounds at ideal weight, and she is very much a therapy dog in the making. Group home, traveling buddy, companion, that's who she is. Libby was well loved and cared for and it shows. She has beautiful house manners, falls completely head over heels in love with her people, and is friendly and patient with everyone she meets. She is housetrained and not a chewer. Libby is seeking a home where someone is around more often, she does ok fostered in a home with a typical workday but is so driven to be with people she'd be happiest if she were with someone home more. She does well with cats and other dogs and the visiting kids. Libby is an exceptional dog, but really needs to find her 'forever home'... all these changes are hard on her, and she is so desperate to belong to someone again For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You may email Marlee at marleeskibum@netzero.net with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Libby 2
Breed: Coonhound / Terrier? Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Libby is a goofy, friendly and sensitive hound mix. She is 7 yrs old, but thinks she is still a young adult. She has a sleek and lanky body at 36 lbs. Libby was well loved (and a bit spoiled), but found herself homeless due to her previous owner's change in work hours and residence. Libby loves to be the center of attention, is active, but can be a couch potato after playing with her doggie friends at the park or going on a long walk. She knows basic commands and will certainly perform for tasty treats. She does not chew and is housetrained. She will need a fenced yard to run and play and/or an owner committed to daily walks (twice/day is ideal). She has been known to scale 4 ft fences to escape and will follow her nose, so needs to be kept on leash or monitored in fenced area. Libby can be vocal (she is a coonhound after all) and is not well suited for shared wall living spaces (apartments and townhomes). She may not tolerate young children but is fine around older children. Libby is NOT a hunting dog and is afraid of gunshots. She cannot be around cats or chickens - they are much too fun to scare and chase. Libby does become quite anxious when she is confined (crates or small room) or left home alone for too long. She prefers to sleep in her doggie bed close to you in the bedroom. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email deetorgerson@tds.net with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Little Miss Tia
Breed: Rat Terrier Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: Introducing Little Miss Tia. Tia is a tiny little princess of a girl who loves nothing more than being the center of attention. Her favorite place is in your arms, or loyally at foot following your every move. She is sweet and dainty, with a prissy personality to match. She knows she is cute, and soaks up the love with joy and dignity. Tia and her siblings are Rat Terrier mixes who came into rescue after their momma was hit and killed by a car when they were only three weeks old. Luckily, we had a nursing momma with puppies the same age that happily accepted the pups into her family. Tia's breed is a complete guess. However, being that a Labrador momma (and her pups that are the same age and twice Tia's size) raised the trio, we guess them to be around 25lbs full grown. Tia and her siblings will not be available for adoption until the July 31st adoption. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You can email Linzy at rc_lg@live.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Lizzy
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lizzy is an adorably precious mini Lab.... well, in reality, she is a Lab mixed with something smaller, like Spaniel, so she will forever look like a baby Lab at 35 pounds. This girl is happy, full of fun, LOVES kids and other dogs, and although mentally still more puppy (she is about 10 months) than adult she does have the housetraining and crate training down. Her absolute favorite activity is hanging out with the kids, or playing with other dogs. She does best with a fenced yard as she loves to chase bunnies outside. Lizzy is one of those dogs who has a happy smile, a golden heart, a love of life that is contagious to those around her. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Lucy
Breed: Basset Hound / Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lucy is an adult female medium sized dog, well housetrained and no chewing, who is ready for an active home. Yes, that's right... she may have the world's shortest legs, but she keeps up with the best of them! Lucy loves to go walking or running and is in good shape. She also loves the dog park, but after spending most of her life as an only dog is still learning to read some dog's cues. She is amazing with people, fine with cats (she has a high respect for them), and wants to fetch, swim, play and run but also come inside and settle right down. She tolerates her baths, dress up times and doctor play with the kids with stoic heroism. She would love a fenced yard to play in, or a home that walks/runs daily. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Lucy
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lucy is perfection in dog form! She is a beautiful black Lab mix (possibly Boxer). Originally adopted when she was a puppy she has been well-trained, well-raised and is full of love for everyone and everything. Sadly her owners need to find her a new home due to losing their home. She is excellent with kids, good with other dogs. She is housetrained, left loose for the workday or kenneled, knows basic commands, is trained on invisible fencing, and is so eager to please and learn more. She LOVES to play fetch, loves to catch frisbees, and loves running around and playing. She mellows out nicely in the house as well. She barks when people come to the door but is otherwise quiet. Lucy is a happy, fun, well-mannered, smart dog...what more could anyone ask for?! This is the courtesy post as we do not have an open foster home for her. Lucy does not attend pet adoptions but her people are able to meet during the week for her. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Lulabelle
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Lulabelle (Lulu for short) is a brindle Australian Cattle Dog/total mutt mix, a 40 pound bundle of happy energy who sure lights up the dog park. This adolescent girl has a kiss and a wag for everyone. Currently fostered with kids and other dogs, she is just a joy. The word joy describes her to a T. She is close to housetrained (previously an outside dog, learning quickly but not quite 100%), crates for the workday, still needs her own bones and toys or she finds the kids toys. Lulu's claim to fame is her desperate attempts to do the right thing, such as sit instead of jump up, but the impulse control wanes quickly and then she is on her hind legs, hugging. This dog has brains, beauty, fun and such joy that she brings a smile to everyone around her. She cannot go to a home with cats. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Mac
Breed: Retriever Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Mac is an adorable, sensitive, mellow and shyer 30 pound Retriever mix of some sort. Poor Mac has really had it hard.... skin and bones, a badly broken front leg that was left to heal on it's own and likely will be amputated, and so mistreated he is unsure who and how to trust. Mac sure tries though, he melts right into you when you pet him and about turns himself inside out to please you. He is fostered with cats and other dogs and does well, although being a quieter dog he prefers the more mature dogs as company. He is housetrained with a routine, crated for the workday, and a super snuggler at night. If you have the time, patience and desire to give this special needs little guy a forever home, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease.

UPDATE YAY! Mac was able to have his surgery done and is already doing amazingly well! He wants to run and play with the other dogs already. He looks, acts, and feels so much better! The surgeon is tentatively calling the surgery a success at this point which is excellent news. He still needs a few more weeks of restricted activity, vet visits, and rehab but so far is doing very well. If you would like to make a donation to his continued medical needs please send donations to PO box 1802 Maple Grove, MN 55311 or use paypal http://homewardboundrescue.chipin.com/macs-surgery. Thank you all for your support of this wonderful guy!

Name: Maguire (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Newfoundland / Retriever Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Maguire is a slender, leggy, handsome Newfy/Retriever mix seeking a home, and for the time being, seeking a foster home. This 5 year old dog has all the hard work already done! He is housetrained, recognizes and is respectful of his size inside the house, playful outside but calm inside. He has lived with a toddler, and done well, but his ideal home would be with adults in a quieter place, or a home with a fenced yard. He would love a home to walk him, take him places, and spend time inside hanging out with him. He is very much a people pleaser, and will do anything asked of him. If you can be a foster home or adopter for Maguire, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Mandy
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Reporting from her foster home: Mandy is a total sweetheart! A very well-behaved dog, She is fairly reserved, doesn't jump up and give kisses and without a tail, you don't see that wagging. She does like to be close and will lay down so she is touching you if possible and will snuggle with encouragement. She got up set and was looking for me when I left her with someone else yesterday for a short while, so she will bond hard with someone. She is so good on and off leash and comes right away when called. As she is getting more comfortable, she is getting more playful, so she would be great with another dog of similar size that would like a playmate. She tried to get Brooke to play but she is a little wary of Keno cause he is so much bigger than her. She was really good with everyone that came up to pet her yesterday and since she does not jump up on people she would be good with any size kid. She is well housetrained but does need a fence or canine companion (* she won't potty on a leash) and does well with everyone. She likes to play, but does not have the intensity seen in most Cattle dogs, she is more Lab-like. She is just a great dog, Mandy can be wary of some men but with treats and patience comes around very quickly. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, you can email Janet at janetgus@yahoo.com. Name: Marlo (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: German Shepherd / Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Marlo is a young adult female German Shepherd/Lab mix, a family friendly, kid loving, smart and willing dog. She is used to small kids and other pets in the home, and is already housetrained and crate trained. Marlo was an unclaimed stray, and spent several weeks at the pound waiting to be noticed and saved. Luckily someone did, and sent her our way. She is heartworm positive, so the orginal rescue who wanted her backed out. Poor Marlo.. it's such a treatable thing, and we plan to do that so she can live a normal, happy, healthy life. If you want a dog who plays when you want to, cuddles like a champ and is always ready to do whatever you ask of her, meet sweet Marlo.

Name: Max
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Poor Max has just about every single strike in the rescue world against him. He is a Pit Bull mix, not all the eye-catching or cute, and is a little older. This might be where most people stop reading his bio because an older Pit Bull in rescue is pretty much sealed to a fate of being passed by for a long time. Max is hoping against all odds that someone will look past his exterior and see the amazing dog within. He is friendly, happy, outgoing with all, good with older kids, and absolutely adores his owners. He is loyal, reliable off leash once he knows you, and knows numerous tricks and commands. He is smart as a whip and so eager to please. Max is housetrained, crates for the workday, and has good manners in the house. He was adopted out and reported to be having some accidents and bladder leaking issues however has been put on Proin, a daily incontinence supplement and he has been perfect ever since. So all he needs is someone to committ to giving him a daily pill for the rest of his life...he loves to take his pills in peanut butter! Max cannot go to a home with cats and would love to be your only dog. He loves to play fetch, loves his walks, has beautiful leash manners, and snuggles like a pro. He is one of the biggest underdogs we have here and we're all rooting for someone with a big heart to come along and rescue this sweetheart. Max does not attend adoption events, so if you like to meet him email Hannah at hkrueger@live.com. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease.

Name: Max 2
Breed: Retriever / Black Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Max is a beautiful young Retriever / Black Lab cross, a happy dog who was rescued from kennel life on a farm and now knows the joy of being a house dog. Max went from being chained in a pole shed all day to playing in the yard with another dog (he loves it!), kissing toddlers he adores, and sleeping inside. He is housetrained with a routine and crated for the workday. He is a shiny black, muscled, active and happy dog. Max is a highly trainable dog. In a short time, he has learned basic commands, house manners, and how to play. His ideal home would have a dog companion and at least visiting kids for him to smooch on. He will dig if outside alone, but that's a small price to pay for such an otherwise amazing dog! If you want to adopt a dog who has not had a good life, holds no grudges and loves everyone, Max is your boy. You can email kadams4545@hotmail.com for an application or to set up a time to meet Max as he does not attend pet adoption events. Name: Milo
Breed: Maltese / Poodle Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Milo is an adult mixed breed, non-shed, rescued from a backyard breeder. This breeder took better care of their dogs than most of the ones that land in rescue, they are clean and healthy and sweet. The one trait he does have is shyness, and a need to have patience with housetraining. Milo is about 5 pounds, would do best with another dog and a fence as he does not walk on the leash well yet, and is a quiet, cuddly, wants badly to trust little boy. Breeder 'rejects' take a special home, as they are work to housetrain, work to socialize, and take someone with time and patience. We have high hopes for him as we already see progress with him. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Mimi (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Sheltie / Spaniel Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Mimi is a young adult badly neglected Sheltie/Spaniel mix. Her sweet docile face is absolutely a representation of her personality. Quiet, gentle, unassuming girl of about 40 pounds, she has had a hard life so far. She is matted to the skin (we will be shaving her somewhat this week), skinny, and flinches if she thinks you might hurt her. The house was scary to her at first (especially the tile and steps!) but she is easily encouraged to try. She loves people, especially kids, and is highly dependent on the other dogs to show her what to do. Her ideal home would have another dog to show her the ropes, although if you were patient enough to know it would take longer for her to adjust a single dog home would be considered. Mimi has had a hard life, and needs a home who wants a loving, low key dog and has the patience to show her the world. Mimi is working on housetraining, she does amazing with the other dogs there.... simply follows them and copies them. She crates easily for the workday and does well with all other dogs and cats. Yes, she is harder than the 'ready to go' dog who has the training already, but the rewards you'd get are so worth the time you'd spend training. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Mustang Sally is shy at first and needs some time to warm up but once you win this girl over you win her heart. She is working on her housetraining, loves her crate and often will go there when she is scared. She loves the other dogs, does fine with cats and is good with older kids (10+). Name: Mutt
Breed: Rat Terrier Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Mutt is a happy, wiggly, one-in-a-million little guy, and he blows every little dog stereotype out of the water. He is the perfect mix of playful and snuggly, totally housetrained, cratetrained (although he hasn't needed one), not at all yappy, LOVES kids, great with all other dogs, ignores cats, and is just a happy, well adjusted dog. You can tell that someone loved this dog once, and took the time to train and care for him. Mutt has an old leg injury that causes him to carry his front leg up sometimes, but it doesn't affect his day to day activities in the least. He bounces up and down when he wants to go outside, hops on and off the bed, and begs for treats with no trouble whatsoever. He loves sleeping in bed, and his favorite spot is burrowed way down under the covers. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Libby at libby7521@hotmail.com with questions. Name: Nestle
Breed: Longhaired Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Nestle is a longhaired Chihuahua. A shy guy who we can tell wants to learn how to be a loving companion just doesn't know how yet. He came from a bad situation and seems shocked to learn that there is more to life than he knew before. He is working on his housetraining, loves his crate and often retreats there for his own time when he is stressed, and is not a barker. He is fine with other dogs, fine with cats, but needs an adult only home as he is nervous when he is grabbed for. Nestle tries so hard to be brave, just needs an owner to help bring out that inner brave dog hiding within that scared little chihuahua body. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Noodle
Breed: Lhasa Apso

Description: Noodles is an adult male Lhasa Apso, a very well trained dog with the stubborness and 'regal' attitude the breed is known for! He is seeking a home with adults, a home with a routine and also someone who walks him. He is housetrained, crated for the workday, not a chewer and not much of a barker. He would do ok with visiting kids but prefers to live with adults who will respect his need for space sometimes when he needs some. He is a fun, quirky, silly dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Description: Oliver the Pug has no idea Pugs are supposed to be laid back and lazy.... this little chubber is all about playing, having fun, meeting new friends (people and animal). Ollie has a perpetual wink due to losing an eye from an injury, and it sums up his personality. He is a mishievous, always happy, funny and entertaining little dog. He actually reminds us very much of a 2 year old toddler! He is housetrained, crated for the workday, loves to share the bed at night. Ollie gets along with cats and other dogs, and loves kids. He is a high energy, spunky little Pug. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Paco (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Paco is a tough, 100 lb Rottie trapped in a tiny 10 lb Chihuahua body! This guy is Mr. Macho, Mr. Tough Guy, and thinks he rules the world...typical Chihuahua! He's full of sass and when it comes to being the boss, it's his way or the highway. He talks tough, grumbling and growling at everyone who picks him up and reminds him he is small but when he lets his guard down he is the best little cuddlebug. He loves to snuggle, loves to be held (on his terms), and enjoys his people companionship. He needs an adult only home since kids don't always respect his tough guy image. He is fostered with other dogs and does fine with them, though he will speak up if they get too rowdy around him. He will sometimes curl up and sleep next to the quieter dogs when he thinks no one is watching...it's hard to always keep up that tough guy image! If you like Chihuahua's you'll love Paco! He would do best in a Chihuahua experienced home willing to lay down some boundaries and show him that he doesn't get to be the king of the house. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Parker (aka Parson)

Description: Parker is a Red Lab mix who is perfect in just about every single way. He is super gentle and loving with the kids. He is incredibly patient and gentle when it comes to kids and lets them walk him around, play any game they desire with him, and curl up on the floor to snuggle and be their pillow. He is excellent with the other dogs, fine with cats, and meets everyone like they are his best friend. This perfect guy has one request for his new home...he either needs a home with another dog to keep him company for the workday or a family who is around more often than not. He is nervous being caged but is fine left gated in the kitchen/laundry room for short periods of time alone or for the workday with another dog. Parker just doesn't like to be alone too long. Call it his little insecurity...we all have them! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Peanut Butter (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Shepherd / Spaniel / ? Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Peanut Butter is a female young adult mixed breed who has some Shepherd and some Spaniel and some good old fashioned mixed up mutt in her that makes her one in a million. What she also has in spades is the sweetest, gentlest, calm temperament in a young dog. She is fostered in a busy home with kids and other pets, and behaves so well you don't even know she is there. She IS a puppy still at about 10 months, but wow is she an old soul puppy. It doesn't mean there were not a few accidents as she adjusted, or a few chewed kids toys, but it does mean she is low key, patience of a saint, quiet and gentle. Her leash manners are incredible already also. She may not leap out looks wise, but she sure is a stand out dog temperament wise. Her estimated adult size is about 45 pounds. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Pearl
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Senior
Description: Pearl. A gentle, graceful name for an absolute sweetheart of a dog. She was someone's outdoor farm dog before but has adapted to house living so quickly. She picked up the housetraining in days and has been perfect ever since. She crates quietly, not a barker, not a chewer, and mellow in the house. She loves her walks around the neighborhood and takes her role as the neighborhood greeter very seriously! She loves everyone she meets without hesitation, gets along well with other dogs, totally ignores the cats, and does great with the kids. Pearl's ears are frostbitten, she's got some grey to her, but underneath her not so pretty exterior is the most beautiful personality you'll ever encounter.

UPDATE:Yes, Pearl is a senior, and it's true that she's not going to live forever, but this dog is still so happy and sweet, she really deserves to be adopted into a nice home. She lived previously as an outdoor farm dog; you can see it in her thinning fur and missing ears, the slight limp from an old injury, yet she's still going strong and looking to be adopted. Poor girl has never had the chance to just be someones much loved pet. She is absolutely amazing, happy to just be near her people, and tries oh so hard to please. Pearl is so quiet in the house you forget she's even there, until you walk into the room and hear the thump thump thump of her tail as soon as she sees you. She is so unbelievably sweet, one of those old souls who has seen it all and is now content to just relax on her blanket and chew on a rawhide.

Name: Pepper
Breed: Miniature Schnauzer
Age: Adult

Description: Pepper is an adult female very quiet, shy Miniature Schnauzer. Always gentle, this girl was previously used as a breeding dog and was a number and not the pet she was meant to be. She is a loving being inside, although she is easily frightened by sudden noises and the outdoors. Pepper is gentle with kids and other pets, and really seeks a quiet, predictable, patient home to build confidence and show love to this deserving little dog. Pepper is a 'mama's girl' and is more comfortable around women. Pepper could really blossom in a home with the guidance and mentorship of another friendly outgoing dog. She is such a sweet dog. Name: Pita Pocket (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Terrier Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: Pita Pocket is a female 12-14 week old Terrier cross puppy of some sort, expected to be full grown at 30-40 pounds. She is fiesty, fun, happy and VERY smart. After day 3 she was accident free in her foster home, and is crated for the workday. Pita can be a little bossy with other dogs over food, but is happy to share with people! Pita is a moderate energy, typical find the trouble baby. She is just very smart and likes to learn, too! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You can email Libby at libby7521@hotmail.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.(His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Pixel
Breed: Rat Terrier Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: This is Pixel, appropriately named for the wide array of colored spots that make up her coat, much like the billions of colored spots, or Pixels, that make up a photograph. Pixel is what one would call a 'Tom Boy.' She loves to play, and wrestle with the other pups, and is fearless and always ready to go. But like most Tom Boys, there is a sweet and cuddly side of Pixel that will warm your heart (but shhh don't let anyone else know that, she has to keep up appearances you know?). Pixel and her siblings are Rat Terrier mixes who came into rescue after their momma was hit and killed by a car when they were only three weeks old. Luckily, we had a nursing momma with puppies the same age that happily accepted the pups into her family. Pixel's breed is a complete guess. However, being that a Labrador momma (and her pups that are the same age and twice Pixel's size) raised the trio, we guess them to be around 25lbs full grown. We can tell you she sure is cute though! Note - Pixel's ears don't actually stand up. She was just being silly and laying down for her photo). Pixel and her siblings will not be available for adoption until the July 31st adoption. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You can email Linzy at rc_lg@live.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Prince
Breed: American Eskimo
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Prince is an adorable fluffy white 1 year old American Eskimo with a zest for life! This guy is always happy, loves to play, and can't stop wagging his tail. As a typical Eskie, he has a lot of energy and is very playful and spunky. He loves going for walks, zipping around the backyard, and playing with the other dog at his foster home. He loves his basket of dog toys and entertains himself by throwing the toys up into the air and then running after them. As energetic as he is, Prince isn't hyper. He knows how to settle down and is a good sleeper at night. He is great with people, very friendly, very happy. He makes his foster Mom and Dad laugh every day. On these hot summer days, Prince loves water and loves to have you spray the hose so he can jump around in it and take sips by biting at the water. It's hilarious to watch. Prince is friendly with children, but hasn't lived with them to our knowledge. If he does go to a home with kids, they should be ages 12 and up. He is a perfect playmate for other dogs. Prince is extremely loving and devoted, he has the sweetest way of sneaking right up close to you so that you can't help but to pet and love him. Prince will make a wonderful companion to a person or family looking for a sweet and loving boy, he is so very attentive and watchful of his home and his people. Name: Princess Penny
Breed: Boxer
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Penny is an adult female Boxer, widely recognized for her all over body wiggle and the kisses she passes out to everyone she meets. This happy girl loves kids, has no clue what a stranger is ( not much of a watchdog!), and loves to play in her yard and then sack out on the couch. Penny is a treasure. She was an unclaimed stray from the shelter, treated for heartworm and is all set for her own home. She can be bossy with some other dogs (not all, but some she just doesn't like in her face, so not a dog park dog) but loves every person she meets. Housetrained, crate trained, smart and VERY much a people pleaser, this girl wants her own home and yard and family. We love her, she has been with us awhile. Name: Purdy
Breed: Boxer / Lab Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Purdy may look like a plain, ordinary, run of the mill, old black dog, but stop! Look again! Check out those friendly brown eyes and that big doggie grin (and if you could see her feet, the pink toenails courtesy of the girl in her foster home). Purdy is an absolutely phenomenal dog and will be such a fantastic addition to her new family. She came into rescue a total mess, missing almost all of her fur due to mange, had lived her life on a chain, and never seen the inside of a house. Her luck changed a few days before Christmas, when she was rescued from the pound because her rescuer couldn't stand the thought of this sweet dog being euthanized. Since then, she has become the perfect pet, adjusting to living inside the house with ease. Purdy is solidly housetrained, cratetrained, ADORES kids of all ages, great with other dogs, and even lets the kitties eat out of her dish with her. She would be the perfect dog for a first time dog owner, or a family looking for a good kids dog. She is extremely patient with the kids in her foster home and loves it when they play games like fetch and "chase the laser light". Purdy is very smart and picks up commands in only a few tries, she can 'sit', 'speak', 'shake', 'come', 'lay down', and 'stay'. Dogs this great don't come along very often, and it will be a sad day for her foster family when Purdy finds her new home. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Ralphie
Breed: Black Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Ralphie is a big, huge, happy puppy who thinks he is a lap dog! This 85 pound Lab mix has hero-worship on kids, any and all kids, and would follow a kid to the ends of the earth if asked to. He is one of the most patient, tolerant, bomb-proof steady dogs we have ever met with both people and other pets. In fact, he spent the last adoption event having his face chewed on all day in the crate by a tiny puppy with a patient, resigned look on his face. He has no idea he is a big dog, no idea he is supposed to be growing up yet. He is very much a perpetual puppy in a big dog body. He was previously an outdoor dog, but is picking up on the housetraining with the help of a belly band and he is crate trained. He is submissive and playful with other dogs and cats, and as we said, likes kids an incredible amount. He does need more training, he does need some manners taught, but he is such a people pleaser and wants to learn so badly. Once trained, he would make an amazing therapy dog with his sweetness and tolerance. If you are up for the challenge of training, and want a big dog with a heart of absolute gold, Ralphie is your guy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Description: Reeses Pieces is a male longhaired chihuahua who is coming out of his shell after living a sheltered life. He is shyer at first but quick to warm up and likes to watch the world go by from the safety of his cage with his eyes wide as saucers. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well and often retreats there when he is unsure of what's going on around him, and is not a barker or chewer. He is fine with other dogs, fine with cats, and good with older kids (10+). He needs a home willing to give him some more positive socialization to bring him out of his shell even more. Name: Retro
Breed: Shepherd / Lab Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Retro is a Shepherd/Lab mix, found as a stray and someone sure lost a treasure in him. He is so smart, so loyal, and so loving. He wants to please his people, gets along great with the kids, and loves the other dogs. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates for the workday (but protests his confinement a bit!), and works so hard on his house manners. Retro was an outside dog before, not well cared for, not given much love but boy does he try to make up for it now! He loves to snuggle, loves to sleep on the bed when allowed, and works his hardest to show everyday how much he loves his owners. Retro hasn't had much training but he is willing to learn and wants to please. Won't someone show this boy what a real loving home is right? For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. Retro did test positive for heartworm disease and Lymes disease but will be treated for both of them shortly.

UPDATE: I'm such a smart boy. I learned how to sit within just a few minutes! My foster mom was so pleased with me that she promised she'd let me write up an update letting everyone know how great I am. I am one of her favorites (don't tell the others!). I'm moderately active, love to follow my people around, and pick things up in a flash. My housetraining is going very well, I'm crated for the workday and though I don't like it much I know that when my mom comes home it's time to play and I LOVE playtime. I like to goof around in the yard with the other dogs and the kids. I'm great with dogs but mom says I cannot go to a home with cats...I think those cat things are really delicious looking but mom tells me I'm not allowed to do that. I'm sure a great boy and though I love hanging out at my foster home I'd sure love a forever home!

I'm a spotlight dog! Please check out my blog page to learn more about how wonderful I am http://www.homewardbounddogrescue.blogspot.com/!

Name: Rook
Breed: Doberman / Lab / Hound Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Checkmate! Whoever gets to take this guy home will think they won the dog lottery...or a dog chess game at least! Rook has been raised with love from the time he was just a pup. Unfortunately his owner fell on some hard times medically and had to have a relative take care of his beloved Rook. Well, Rook ended up in an outdoor kennel run, not well cared for, and not getting near the amount of love that he was used to. Luckily, Rook had enough people pulling for him and in his corner that he was sprung from his kennel and brought to us. He is in a foster where he has a yard to run in, other dogs to play with, and people to love on him. His eyes light up when he sees his leash come out for a walk. Rook is GREAT with kids (he is soooo patient and sweet with the kids, and follows them around with some serious hero worship), loves the other dogs, and does fine with cats. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, and so eager to please. He remembered his house manners in about a day at his foster home...talk about smart! Rook's only real request for his new home is that he wants a yard to play and run around in or someone very committed to taking him to the dog park. He just wants time to run off leash and experience the wind in his ears once again! We don't think it's too much to ask for this guy to once again have a yard and some loving people to dote on him. He is some sort of Dobie/Lab/Hound type mix....none of us can quite agree on what mix he is but we all agree his personality is wonderful! Note - Rook does not attend pet adoptions. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Rory
Breed: Yellow Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Rory is a ready made kid's best friend, dog park king, sloppy smile boy! This young adult Lab cross spent 2 months at a shelter before coming to foster care, and he is amazing! He is housetrained, crate trained, and minds his manners except when he loses his head over the kids and can't stop loving on them long enough to listen. He is reliable off leash once attached, super friendly and very smart! He does beautifully with other dogs as well. Rory had a previously broken leg that has healed itself, so he has a slight, non-painful limp now. Look at the wisdom and charm in this dog's face... please consider choosing Rory the wonderdog! (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Rowdy
Breed: Rat Terrier
Age: Senior
Gender: Male
Description: Rowdy and his sister (who was just adopted) are 2 senior terrier mixes who adore each other, their people, sitting on laps and snuggling, and going for walks. They may be seniors but no one seems to have told them that! They jump about 5 feet in the air for walk time when their leashes come out, hop right up into the car, and snuggle right in on the couch next to their foster parents for some love. We love these two! They are excellent with other dogs, fine with the cats, and good with respectful kids. They were reluctantly surrendered due to their elderly owners no longer being able to care for them. They are housetrained, cratetrained, not barkers or chewers, and have been raised with nothing but love. Ideally, they can go to a home together as they are very attached and bonded to one another. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.

Name: Royce
Breed: Beagle Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Royce is God's gift to beagledom. Just ask him. This boy, at about 2 years old, oozes charisma and charm from every pore and is full of beagle mischief. He loves rolling in dirty laundry, playing hard with other dogs (though he wants to be the top dog in his home) and loves people more than anything else in the world. Royce is young enough to still have some puppy behaviors like chewing, but old enough that they are quite manageable - he only chews his chew toys and catches on quite quickly as to which items are his and which aren't. He is housetrained and used to being crated for a 9-hour workday. Royce would love nothing better than a home with a family who would include him in lots of daily activities, as he always wants to be at the heart of everything (after all, he is the most important member of the family, you know) and who would take him to obedience classes to continue the work his foster home has started with him. Royce already knows 'sit' and 'down' and waits nicely for his dinner. It's so rewarding to watch this smart boy connect the dots and figure out what you're asking him to do! Royce has a medium energy level, meaning that a couple of walks or a long walk and a couple of play sessions a day will be just fine for him. Once he's had his daily exercise, he's quite happy to sleep comfortably in your lap all evening. Royce has been with us for several months now and the only thing we can think that puts people off is that he may not pay a lot of attention to people when they take him out for walks at adoption events. There are two reasons for this: 1) he's a beagle, so everything smells really good to him at first, which is very distracting and 2) he thinks his foster home is his forever home, so at adoption events he tends to only pay attention to his foster mom. If you're a hound lover, please don't pass Royce by, as he truly has a big-dog personality in a 35-pound body. Just ask for Jackie, his foster mom, at the adoption events, and she can take him out for you to show you how strongly he'll bond to you and your family. If you have questions, you can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease.

OBEDIENCE CLASS UPDATE: Royce's foster mom has more great news this week from his obedience class. He's now more than halfway through his Level 1 obedience class at Twin Cities Obedience Training Club (www.tcotc.com) and has many of the basic commands down pat. So far, he knows the verbal commands for 'sit', 'down', 'touch' and 'watch me'. He knows the hand signal for 'down' and his loose-leash walking is wonderful. He can also sit up for treats. This week, he's working on 'go to your mat' (which he almost has down) 'stay' (both verbal and hand signal, but which is harder for him) and 'leave it'. In his spare time, he's learning how to shake. This boy is super-smart and picks things up very quickly. His foster mom has learned that he really responds well to clicker training (almost as well as treats, which remain his first love) and is using it with him quite effectively. Royce is showing serious potential for agility or rally obedience work. Make sure you ask his foster mom to show off his skills at an upcoming adoption event, and watch for future posts here to track his progress.

Name: Rugby
Breed: Aussie Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Rugby is an adult male Aussie mix, smooth coated with some feathers, a very affectionate and people pleasing temperament. He walks like an angel on the leash, is very comfortable inside and outside playing, and loves the kids and other pets at his foster home. He is full grown at about 40 pounds, and although he loves to play he also loves flopping in your lap for some quiet time. Talk about a smart dog, he is so trainable and so willing to do absolutely anything asked of him. He is close to housetrained (previously an outdoor dog), crates well for the workday, and likes everyone he meets. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Linzy at rc_lg@live.com.

Name: Saki
Breed: Japanese Chin
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Saki the adult male Japanese Chin is a peppy, fun, cuper adorable little perky puppy. He is full grown at about 12 pounds, and is just a sunshine happy dog. He has been raised with other dogs and cats and does really well with them, and has quickly caught onto the housetraining at his foster home (that being said, expect some accidents at first anyways, as with any dog). He is crated for the workday and enjoys his crate. Saki is fostered with kids and thinks they are pretty neat little beings. He has this cute little tag game he plays, he play bows and wants to play chase. He ends it by leaping into your lap and cuddling right in. New situations make him a little shy, so while he may wag all over he still is a little nervous with strangers reaching for him. He has never, ever nipped nor shown any desire to do so, just retreats. This is a really neat little dog with a fun temperment.

UPDATE: Originally shy, sweet Saki still is sometimes overwhelmed by a lot of chaos but his reaction is to wriggle from head to toe and be as cute as he possibly can be. That's pretty cute! This little Japanese Chin boy is sweet and loving with everyone. His ideal home would be a quieter one, he does well with the kids and other pets but needs a patient, consistent, extra loving home to help him shed the shyness. He is an amazing lap dog, loves to be held and cuddled and sleeps all curled up with the kids at night. After a week of transition accidents, he is accident free and does well crated for the workday. He is such a neat little dog, personality plus!

Name: Satchel (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Beagle
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: I've packed my bags and I'm moving in! Hi, I'm Satchel, can I come live with you? I'm a male Beagle, about 10 months old, and I love everybody. I'm great with other dogs, like cats (though I like to chase them, too, if they run) and I adore kids. I'm still a young boy, you know, but they tell me I'm pretty good at something called housetraining. I bark a little bit in my crate because I want to be with you, but if you put my crate in your bedroom when you sleep, that helps a lot because I know I'm not alone, but with my family, which for me is the best place of all to be. After all, home is where the heart is, and I'd like to give mine to you. I'm cute as a button, happy as the day is long and full of charm. I do have the beagle nose, whatever that is, so I need a family who will keep me safe and won't let me go running off after every squirrel I see. Other than that, I really just need someone to love me - want to volunteer? If so, email my friend Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease.

Name: Scamp (aka Max)
Breed: Schnauzer Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Scamp, formerly known as Max, is just that... a scamp of a dog who is all Terrier. Feisty and fun, active and a terror Terrier, he is entertainment for sure! This young adult Schnauzer mix is seeking an active home, preferably with another dog and older kids/adults, who can continue with his training, socializing and set some firm boundaries. He was in an amazing home before, they loved him to death and took excellent care of him. However, Max the Scamp needs a home with more Terrier experience than they had. He pushes the boundaries (not mean, just to see if he can) and is too smart for his own good. He is housetrained, crate trained, playful and loves to cuddle up also.

Name: Sebastian (aka Saint)
Breed: Basset Hound
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: I'm an adult Basset Hound who was abandoned at the pound, but I belonged to someone once, since I know where I should go to the bathroom and have nice housemanners. I LOVE the kids with a passion, love to snuggle, and think I should be at your feet or drooling on your lap at all times. I like other dogs and even get along fine with the kitties (though I sometimes like to bark at them to see them jump!). I'm an older boy, perhaps 5 to 6 years old at best guess, so I'm well past puppy behaviors like chewing. In short, the nice people here say I'm just about perfect! I like everyone I've met so far. They tell me that I have a typical hound personality and that I'm goofy and charming. I like to sing along with my foster mom when she sings...she has a beautiful voice and I like to join in with mine! I also have my very favorite chair in the house, a rocking chair. I know how to rock it back and forth and it makes my foster family laugh when I do it. I'm a wonderful hound dog looking for a loving home to settle into and show you how much love I have packed into my cute basset body! You can email Rachel at lpuppylove4u@aol.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease.

Name: Shay
Breed: Yellow Lab Cross
Age: Mature Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Oh Shay. That's all we can say most days. This poor dog has been abandoned many times over. Not one of them was her fault either. She was originally given up from a home where her beloved owner was running from an abusive husband. Shay was her best friend and she was Shay's but for both their safety she made the hard choice to surrender her. Shay was then taken in by a family who decided they no longer wanted her since she didn't stay in their yard for hours on end during the day...she wanted attention and would wander over to the neighbors. She didn't run, just was lonely! Shay is absolutely the perfect dog. She is housetrained, left loose for the workday, excellent with kids, fine with the cats, and has beautiful manners. She has one flaw. She bonds so hard to her owners that she will get tough with the other dogs on the leash. She was attacked by a smaller dog so feels the need to protect her family from the other dogs on the leash. Off the leash she is fine and if her owner corrects her for it, she stops. She lives to please her owners. She spends half her life pleasing you and the other half thinking of ways to make you happier! Shay deserves a home to finally call her own forever. She doesn't ask for much: some bones (her favorites), someone to love her that she can love back, and someone to wash her face at night (she LOVES that). You can email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com for more details, as well as pre-adoption questionnaire information. For obvious reasons, this dog MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease.

Name: Sissy (aka Princess)
Breed: German Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Sissy is an adult female German Shepherd mix who is on the lookout for a home to call her own! Formerly an outdoor dog, she has learned to love the indoor comforts like soft dog beds, people to cuddle with and be around, and a warm house in the winter. She easily adapted to indoor life and picked up the manners with lightening speed! She is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners. She is typical stubborn shepherd and would do best in a home who knows how to lovingly and respectfully show her she is not the boss. She toes the line once she knows that she can't get away with things! Sissy likes other dogs, is good with older kids (10+), and cannot go to a home with cats. Sissy would love a yard to play in or someone to walk her, a place to snuggle with her humans, and someone to finally recognize and love her for the amazing, wonderful dog that she is. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. You can see more pictures of Sissy at: http://s794.photobucket. com/albums/yy226/lberg05/Sissy/.

UPDATE: Sissy Shepherd wants to be a farm dog... she can think of nothing better than running on some acres, riding along in the truck, chasing farm kitties and feeling useful. That being said, she meets all these goals in the city as well. Sissy is an adult female Shepherd who is friendly, a hit at the dog park, fine with kids and has never, ever had her own home. She has lived her life so far on the fringes of everyone else's life. She so badly wants a place to call home. Sissy thinks she is a Lab, she fetches and swims, but has the Shepherd loyalty and smarts.

Name: Sophie Tucker
Breed: Hound Cross
Age: Puppy
Gender: Female
Description: Sophie Tucker is a cute Hound mix pup, a southern lady if we've ever met one! She is a sweetheart, full of kisses and love for everyone she meets. She is a bit shyer at first and takes a minute to get to know her but once you have her heart, she is yours forever. She loves the kids, adores the other dogs, and does fine with cats. She is started on her housetraining and cratetraining both of which are coming along great. She is a smart, eager to please girl that we all adore! She is a typical puppy and needs a home who wants to experience all of the fun puppy things...training, socialization, obedience classes, and the joy only a puppy can bring. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. If you have questions, you can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from)

Name: Taz (aka Mr. Magoo)
Breed: Boxer / Black Lab Cross
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Taz is a young male Boxer / Lab mix who is just about the perfect dog! He LOVES kids, loves other dogs, good with the cats, and makes friends like it's as easy as breathing to him. He is housetrained, cratetrained, and has good house manners. He loves to play and is the hit of the dog park. Taz makes friends with absolutely everyone and everything. We think he'd even befriend a squirrel if one allowed him to get close enough. This guy is all heart. He doesn't always lead with his brain so the kids toys sometimes are confused for his, the impulse control when greeting people goes out the window and he hugs them but he tries so hard and responds so fart to training. He is fostered with kids and does great with them. He is in his element with a group of kids who want to throw a ball for him. He plays fetch like a champ, likes to swim, and lives to please his people. He has an old injury to his leg, broken from being hit by a car but it had healed on its own and sure doesn't slow him down one bit. He is all about having fun, loving everyone he meets, and making his owners happy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Thomas
Breed: Hound
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Sad Thomas is a middle aged Hound dog, and you really don't see much more pitiful than he is right now. Hurt, skin and bones, shy and obviously abused, this dog has had about every horror in his life experienced already. He was left to die at a gassing pound, and luckily one of our volunteers with a soft heart saw him and tagged him for rescue at the last minute. He is so traumatized. He is scared to be in the house and slinks around, preferring to hide out in his crate. He is learning the housetraining from scratch and does not know how to potty on a leash, so he does need a fenced yard. His ideal home is a patient, soft, gentle home with another confident dog he can follow ( he LOVES the other dogs) and learn from. Everything is new and scary to him, but he is game to try it all, and does so with such a sweet nature. He absolutely needs a special home, and it is going to be very hard to find that home, but he can gain some weight and confidence in the meantime. We are also seeking an experienced foster home for him that can give him more 1:1 time. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. If you have questions, you can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire.

Name: Thor
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Thor is a tough dog name for a marshmallow of an Am. Staff! Thor is sure that life is one big party thrown for him and it's his job to make sure all the 'guests' (human and canine) have the time of their lives. You cannot be sad with Thor around! He loves to fit his 50 lb body in your lap for some love, kisses you all over, or will grab a toy and jump around like a jumping bean just to get you to smile. Thor is great with kids of all ages, loves the other dogs, but no cats for him. Thor loves his walks, loves to go running, and loves to play in the yard. Ideally, he would love someone who has a yard for him to play in but as long as you don't mind taking long walks with a handsome dog, he's fine with that too. Thor isn't hyper and loves to relax by your feet with a bone or a toy. He knows many basic commands, walks well on a pinch collar, and is housetrained, cratetrained, and not a barker (except when people come to the door). He's just about the perfect dog and is set on changing those negative stereotypes about pit bulls...if any dog can, it's Thor! He is about 5 years old and has always had a loving home. Thor is reluctantly being surrendered due to changing circumstances within the family making it hard to keep him.

UPDATE: This dog has had his heart broken but he is ready to love again. He was owner surrendered and spent most of the day looking for his owners and sleeping in a ball in his cage. Poor Thor. However, holy cow does this dog have a wonderful personality! He is absolutely a doll, smart as a whip, and loving as can be. In his foster home, he is snuggled up on the couch, happy as can be. Thor would love a home to come along soon wanting a happy, well-trained, well-adjusted Pit Bull to help blow those bad stereotypes out of the water.

Name: Toffee
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Poor, sweet Toffee... why is she STILL here? This is such a wonderful little dog. Rarely barks, smart, gets along well with everyone, and nowhere near as high energy as most Jack Russells, this little sweetie deserves a chance. Previously abused by a man and used as a breeder dog, she can be a little shy at first but never mean. She needs a patient home to ease her into her newly aquired lifestyle. She warmed up quickly to her foster mom and dad, and now gets excited to meet new people now that she knows it's a good thing! Toffee has been with kids, cats and other dogs and is perfectly behaved with all. She would do best with another small dog to show her how she is supposed to behave and that it is ok to relax, or an owner who understands her past and is calm and assertive. She is housetrained, but expect a few accidents during the transition period. She is also crate trained and loves being in her 'safe spot'. She is just a snuggly, even keel little dog. Once she is relaxed and shows you her heart-warming smile, you will melt over this little cutie! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Toodles
Breed: Poodle
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Toodles the Poodle is a breeder 'reject', lucky for him..... that means he gets a chance at a life! This breeder took better care of their dogs than most of the ones that land in rescue, they are clean and healthy and sweet. The one trait he does have is shyness, and a need to have patience with housetraining. Toodles is about 5 pounds, would do best with another dog and a fence as he does not walk on the leash well yet, and is a quiet, cuddly, wants badly to trust little guy. Breeder 'rejects' take a special home, as they are work to housetrain, work to socialize, and take someone with time and patience. We have high hopes for Toodles as we already see progress with him. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Trenny (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Heinz 57
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Trenny is a young adult female wrestling fool! This girl is all tomboy, she wants to wrestle and run and get dirty and have fun! Lucky for her, the camoflauge coat helps hide the dirt from her fun. Trenny is a puppy at heart, although is now housetrained with a routine and crated for the workday and does fine. She is used to kids and other dogs, and will chase cats as she considers them moving toys. We have no idea as to breed mix, we know mom was a Retriever mix but she must take after her dad's side. She needs some toys, dog park time, walks/runs, or another dog to keep her mentally happy. She likes to be busy, but she does settle down really well! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Vadar
Breed: Lab / Shar Pei Cross

Description: Vadar is a goofy looking Lab/ Shar Pei mix. The size of a Lab with the shape of a Shar Pei. Honestly, he looks a little bit like he got the leftover parts that didn't fit on another dog! He's got tiny little ears (but he can hear a treat bag opening or a human calling to him from a mile away!), a big head, and long blocky legs and body. Vadar may not be the stereotypical beautiful dog but his personality sure is. Everything about him is happy. From his happy eyes to his kissing tongue to his always wagging tail, he defines happy. Vadar loves the kids, does fine with other dogs and loves to play, and cannot go to a home with cats. He is housetrained, cratetrained, and well-mannered inside. He knows some basic commands and is so smart. He has been well-loved and is sure shows in his personality! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Willow
Breed: Australian Kelpie
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Description: When asked to list the smartest dog we had, the first name most of us come up with is Willow. She is incredibly intelligent and loyal...a combination that makes her absolutely perfect for a home who wants a dog to train, work, and play with. She could easily be the next agility, obedience, or flyball champ! If you don't want to do that she'd make a great fit into a home who just wants an intelligent dog to train, play with, and love. She is loyal, bonds hard to her owners, and will do anything in the world to please them. She is housetrained, cratetrained, and knows some tricks even (sit, high fives). Willow gets along with most other dogs, cannot go to a home with cats, and would prefer not to live with kids. She would do best in a home who will calmly and firmly take the role of leader. She originally came from a home where she was allowed to be the boss of the house and boy does she love not having to be in charge anymore. Now she looks to her foster family for what is expected of her and acts accordingly to that. She loves to please! She barks appropriately (at the doorbell) and has not been a chewer except on her own toys. If you are an active home looking for an active, intelligent companion, consider Willow. She is a favorite of quite a few volunteers here! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. Name: Windsor
Breed: Husky / German Shepherd Cross
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Description: Windsor is a down on his luck Husky/Shepherd type mix who has a heart of gold under his plushy coat. He hasn't seen a lot of good in life, coming in as a stray dirty and pretty beaten up by other dogs. It's clear this guy had a home at some point and street life was not his cup of tea. He is housetrained, cratetrained, good with older kids (10+), fine with cats, and fine with other dogs. He is a smart, people pleasing dog. He loves to snuggle, loves to go for walks, and aims to please his owners. He is overall more of a lazy guy, loves to chill and munch on a rawhide. Windsor has been down on his luck for way too long and deserves a great home of his own who knows the meaning of forever this time. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net.

Name: Ziggy
Breed: Heinz 57
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Description: Most dogs prefer a home to rescue, as does Ziggy most likely, but she is flourishing in her foster home and has become such an amazing dog. Her foster mom is doing fat farm boot camp with her, and Ziggy is discovering a waistline as well as increased abilities to move about well! Her leg bothers her not at all anymore, she handles walks and steps with ease. She is very well behaved in the house... housetrained, no need for a crate as long as you know she might sneak up onto the bed when she is alone! She rarely barks, loves meeting new people and having guests over (more hands to pet her!), and is just a smart, well behaved, lovely dog. She ignores the other dogs and cat at her foster home, much more people focused. She'd make a wonderful choice for a home wanting a more low key, easygoing, happy dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com.
