NEXT PET ADOPTION: Our next pet adoption will be held March 13th at the Maple Grove Petco from 11:30-4. We hope to see you there!
FOSTER HOMES NEEDED: We have several dogs in need of foster homes. These dogs are safe in fosters right now, but for various reasons such as seeking a quieter place, needing some more one on one time, etc, we are seeking a new foster placement to help them while in rescue. The ones who need it most include: Matilda, Diamond, Cagney, Petra, Grizz, & Curious. We have some dogs on the short list at a shelter, and without foster homes we cannot take them in. If you have ever wanted to help, now is the time...can you foster for 2-4 weeks, and help give a rescue dog that safe place while they transition? To learn more about fostering, please go to our Foster Facts page. Once you've read that, email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information. The dogs (and cats!) thank you for considering becoming a foster mom or dad!
HOMEWARD BOUND TOP 5 LIST! Just for fun, we have chosen to do a "Top 5" category selection for some of our dogs. While chances are high there are many more than 5 that fit into each category, it gives people a chance to whittle the choices down a bit, and is fun for us! For 3 categories we did expand it to the Top 10 due to popular demand! These lists will change and grow regularly! They are by no means complete - you have no idea how hard it is to narrow down this list when so many dogs fit into these categories! "Best Canine Companions" (dogs who would love to have another dog to live with) - Ace, Demi Jessie, Royce & Zag. "Best Dogs for Families with Kids" - Beatles, Buddy, Carson, Coffee, Corky, Grizz, Jasper, Mogey, Petra, & Sterling. "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners" - Bud, Curious, Murphy, Sissy, Shaft, Sugar Pie, Sweets, Trixie, Zag, & Zig. "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home" - (dogs who are saddest in rescue) - Cagney, Curious, Grizz, Matilda, & Petra. "Best Mellowest Dogs" - Dakota, Duster, Purdy, Mollie, & Shay. "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs" - Buddy, Coffee, Gilligan, Homer, Peanut, Petra, Phoebe, Purdy, Shay, & Ziggy. "Best 'Therapy Dog Candidates'" Coffee, Corky, Jessie, Phoebe, & Sissy. "Best Treasures often Overlooked" - Zag, Zig, Red, Chauncey/Jenner , & Bounce. "Best Dogs who have Been Patiently Waiting for a Home" - Bailey, Sissy, Mollie, Murphy, & Chelsea

The dogs/pups listed above are all available for adoption. However, due to space constraints, we cannot bring all of the dogs to the pet adoptions. We tend to mainly just bring the dogs/pups to adoptions that people have inquired about. If you have certain dogs you wish to see (please limit your list to a few) please email the contact person for the particular dog or dogs you are interested in. If the dogs listed above don't match what you are looking for, feel free to check our site later on in the week as we get in new dogs/pups all the time. The list of the available dogs is generally updated Monday evenings, Thursday evenings/Friday mornings, & Saturday evenings.
Feeling overwhelmed as you begin the rescue process? With so many wonderful dogs it can be very hard to know what is the right choice for your family. If you want a little guidance, we would be happy to help you with suggestions for the right fit. Email us a description of some of the characteristics you are seeking (size, gender, temperament, housing situation, kids and other pets, energy level, etc. and we can send a list of possible suggestions for the right fit, or for some to check out. You can email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com for suggestions.
HOMEWARD BOUND DOGS LOOKING FOR HOMES:
|
Name: Abigail
Breed: Black Lab Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Abigail 'Abbi' is a sweet Lab mix who was found as a stray. She is approximately 2 years old and 45lbs. She has lovable retrieving traits like picking up all the stuffed toys from around the house and collecting them on her dog bed. She loves to wrestle with the younger dogs and play chase in the yard. She has two habits that the foster home is helping her to correct. She has a nose for goodies left on the counter and she likes to jump up when her people come home. Her fostermom loves that she lacks one Lab trait, no drool!! No handing you a ball layered with slime from this polite young lady. She seems to be housetrained as she has had no accidents in her fosterhome. She is let out on a schedule and can be crated if needed although she does fine loose in the house. Though she has done fine with other dogs at her foster home, we feel she needs to go to a home without other dogs. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire. |
|
Name: Ace (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Canine Companions")
Breed: Husky / Shepherd Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Ace is a happy, fun loving Husky/Shepherd mix with the love of fun and activeness of both breeds. He loves the other dogs and will play for hours on end with them! He'd love to go to a home with another active canine to play with or someone who likes to run. He had been happily adopted into a home but had to come back due to his owner losing his house. Ace is housetrained, cratetrained, good with older kids, and smart. He loves to cuddle once he is worn out and thinks sleeping on the bed is the best thing since sliced bread! This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You can email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |
|
Name: Annie
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Annie is one of those amazing, one-in-a-million kind of dogs. Although only a year old, she came into rescue pregnant and had a litter of 9 puppies only a week later. She was a wonderful and attentive mom to her babies and now that they all found homes, it is her turn now for a forever home of her own. Annie is much loved by the kids in her foster home because she is always so sweet, gentle, and happy to play. She is great with other dogs and ignores the kitties. Annie absolutely adores walks around the lake and adventures to the dog park where she befriends every dog (and human) that she meets. She is extremely smart and would be a perfect candidate for obedience training. Her foster mom honestly can't think of any negative things to say about her, other than the fact that Annie acts like a doofus at adoptions and seems to forget her leash manners. She is PERFECT at her foster home though! So please excuse her goofiness at adoptions and trust us when we say that Annie is most definitely what we call a "keeper!" You can email Libby at libby7521@hotmail.com with questions. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. |
|
Name: Ariel
Breed: Springer Spaniel Cross Puppy Gender: Female Description: Ariel is a sweet little puppy who is full of puppy fun and enjoyment! She is typical puppy in every way, loves to play, chew, get into cute mischief, and run around with her siblings. When she was younger, Ariel developed a condition called 'puppy strangles' which caused her face to swell up and get sores. The condition isn't contagious and is clearing up well with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. What it means is that she is not at her prettiest at the moment...she has some hair loss on her face which may be permanent but the swelling is already going down and she is looking better! Ariel is working on her housetraining and cratetraining, loves kids, and does great with all other dogs. She is a happy, active puppy who loves to run around and play. She needs plenty of chew toys and bones around so she keeps her mouth off your shoes! She would love to attend an obedience class to learn how to be a good canine citizen. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. UPDATE: Ariel as a nickname at her foster home...Princess Ariel! She is a little princess and loves to be carried around, loved on, and snuggled with. She loves the kids, is great with the other dogs, and is outgoing and friendly. She was a meet and greet dog at a department store promoting Homeward Bound and was the hit of the event. She was carried around by all, gave out kisses to everyone, and loved to wrestle with the other dogs. She has completely healed from her 'puppy strangles' and has minimal hair loss on her muzzle and no lasting medical or physical effects from it. She is healthy, happy, and ready for her forever home. Are You Ready for a Puppy? Before you consider adopting a puppy, please keep in mind that puppies are a lot of work! You'll need to thoroughly puppy proof your house, bring him/her to puppy obedience classes, and socialize him/her with all sorts of people, places, & animals. The more time and energy you 'put into' a pup, the happier you'll be as they get older. Socializing: We can't emphasize enough just how crucial it will be to socialize your pup from the moment you adopt him/her. You'll need to expose your puppy to the world s/he'll be expected to live in as an adult. This means socializing him/her to all sorts of people (be sure your pup meets people from different ethnicities, as well as different clothing styles, particularly people wearing hats), places, dogs, noises, sights, situations, etc. Ideally, your pup will need to get introduced to 100 people (who aren't part of your immediate family) and 100 other dogs before s/he turns 18 weeks old. S/he will have met plenty of people/dogs during his/her stay at Homeward Bound but you'll still need to work on socializing your pup every day. If you want to adopt pup older than that, fear not! You can still socialize your pup. Start right away and proceed just as you would with a younger pup. Housetraining: Up until 4-5 months of age, their bladders cannot physically "hold it" for more than a few hours at a time. Generally a puppy can "hold it" 1 hour more than a pup's age in months. For instance, a 2-month-old puppy should be able to hold his/her bladder for 3 hours while a 5-month-old pup can hold it for 6 hours. Of course, some puppies can hold it longer while others cannot. Small breed dogs, for instance, take considerably longer to housetrain. Young children: Young puppies are generally not good matches for children under the age of 6 because all puppies nip when they play and have very sharp teeth. Pups 4 months and older should be fine with the wee ones though, so long as you know in advance that pups at this age are still going through the oral stage and like to mouth things, will nip on hands at first when playing, need a lot of attention, and are very bouncy. Chewing: All puppies chew (often until they are a year old), so make sure you buy plenty of doggie toys, bones, kongs, and have a great sense of humor! If taking care of a puppy sounds overwhelming to you, consider adopting an older pooch — they are often much, much easier and just as sweet! Our Things to Consider Before Adopting page can also help you decide whether a puppy or adult dog works best for you. |
|
Name: Asti
Breed: Doxie Cross Age: Senior Gender: Female Description: Asti is a mature lady of about 9 years old, a wire Doxie mix with regal blonde good looks and boy does she know she is cute! Asti is seeking a new home as a new baby arrived at her house, and she prefers a quieter, more predictable adult home. Asti is well housetrained, ignores the cat and tolerates the other dog (although clearly she thinks she is more human than dog). Asti would like a fenced yard or someone who walks often, she loves to be out and about. She is not one to go looking for a kid to be crabby to, but if they are running around wild in her space she gets grumpy. Asti would be perfect for an older home, loves her walks and rides. She is on prescription food for allergies, which helps her skin and to help prevent urinary infections. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions or wish for an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

Name: Bailey (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Basset Hound / Beagle Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Bailey has been with Homeward Bound for almost two years. Why? Because she is deaf and most people pass her by thinking that this is a disability for her. Well, she'll be the first to tell you that she doesn't care if she can't hear the world around her. She is Beagle/Basset hound mix for goodness sakes, her nose is her #1 resource! Bailey is looking for a home that wants a goofball. She loves to roll on her back, grunting, and then flies across the room and into your lap! She is full of love for her family, great with kids of all ages, and does well with other dogs. She cannot go to a home with cats. She is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners but could use some basic commands. Now with her being deaf that might sound impossible but it really isn't when you have a treat in your hand and the ability to give her a 'sign language'! It's the same as training a hearing dog, just without the words. She is super smart and sure loves her food so training her is very easy. Bailey shows her worst leash manners at the adoptions but at home tends to be more on the mellow side. She is outgoing, always happy, and is the example of how adaptable dogs are...even being deaf, nothing gets her down. We could all learn from Bailey! She would do best with a fenced yard or someone committed to leash walking/ tie-outs since she is a beagle mix and she cannot hear to be called back. She is about 4-5 years old and 45 lbs (and a little chunky!). You can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease. |

Name: Bear
Breed: German Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Bear has seen the worst of life and bears the scars to prove it. He has been badly abused by a man especially and at first is afraid of men in his house and men who corner him (like in a kennel or a room). He is terrified of his collar being grabbed at by anyone but is getting less and less nervous by the day. He has not been aggressive and warmed up to his foster dad within a few weeks with some treats and love. His real love though is his foster mom. He will do anything for her. He seems to know that he has been rescued and makes it his goal to everyday tell his mom how grateful he is. He is loving, loves to snuggle, and swears he is lap-dog! He is housetrained on a schedule and has good house manners. Bear is terrified of being caged and does much better left confined to a room than a cage. You see, he is a former outdoor kennel dog so quite a bit of abuse occurred when he was confined in a kennel. This is why he barks when he is caged at the adoptions so much. He isn't aggressive, he is just scared and feels that he has to defend himself by barking. He is good with other dogs and likes to play with them at times. He has been more of a mellow boy but sure loves his walks and playtime. He has the cutest habit of loving to chase a laser light! Bear is a great watchdog and will bark when people come into the house but has no follow through. He is good with kids but bonds hardest to the adults. He knows how to sit, shake with both paws, lay down, stay, and come. He's such a smart boy and so willing to learn! Bear needs a home with a patient person/family who knows that it might take some time to win his heart but the rewards are well, well worth the effort! He does have a condition called hypothyroid which is fairly easy to treat and manage with daily medication. His medication costs about $25/month. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Beatles (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids")
Breed: Border Terrier Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Beatles is a rockstar! King of the dog park, kids' best friend, this guy is everything fun combined into one adorable wirey package. He is a Border Terrier mix with a cute scruffy face and a lot of fun and love to go around. He loves to play, loves the other dogs, and loves kids. He needs to be adopted into a home with another dog or some kids to play with. He just can't live without one or the other! He is housetrained on a schedule, cratetrained, not a barker, and well mannered. He is a phenomenal little dog looking for a family who wants a fun-loving companion. |
|
Name: Benji
Breed: Border Collie / Australian Cattle Dog Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Benji is a pretty cool guy! When Benji was 3 months old, he suffered a leg injury that resulted in his left rear leg being amputated. Let me tell you though, this does not slow down this silly guy at all! Benji gets along on his 3 legs with no problems. Benji is a really sweet boy who gets along with other dogs and kids. He has lived w/ dog savvy cats and is fine w/ them. Benji is totally house trained and crate trained. Benji is looking for a home where he'll get to play ball and have fun! It's important that he is exercised daily (to help keep extra muscles in his hips, etc). Benji would probably love some kids to play with. Due to Benji's condition, it is very important that he gets daily exercise (walks are fine) and is kept at a good, slim weight. Benji would love to find a new home!! This dog is courtesy posted for another rescue. For obvious reasons, this dog MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions or wish for an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. Benji's food is being sponsored as a gift given to dog lover Pat Ware. Merry Christmas Benji and Pat! Love, Justin and Paige. |

Name: Benny
Breed: Basenji Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Poor Benny, that's all we can say. Solely used for a breeding dog, only to make profit for a backyard breeder, never even had a name until he was released to rescue. Benny is getting used to normal life and loving it. He's only been in rescue for a short time but he's already making huge strides. He is very sweet but is VERY scared still. He likes to be in a kennel and thinks of it as his safe place. Benny should not go to a home with small, loud kids, he can't help but be afraid of them. Benny is good with nicer dogs, but is scared of overbearing dogs because he has been beat up by other breeding dogs at his previous home. What he's really looking for is an experienced dog home that's quiet and safe until he learns what it's like to be a real dog. He is cratetrained and is picking up on the housetrained quickly. He should go to a home with a fenced in yard since he is afraid of walking on the leash. He weighs about 20 pounds and is beautiful red and white. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Libby at libby7521@hotmail.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |
|
Name: Blanco and Cherub
Breed: German Shepherds Age: Adult Gender: Female and Male Description: Blanco and Cherub are 2 beautiful German Shepherds who have a request for their new home. They would love nothing more than to be adopted together. Littermates, they've been raised since birth and absolutely adore one another. So many people don't want to take on two dogs at once but with these two, it's like adding perfection to your house. They are perfectly trained, housebroken, left loose for the workday, and not barkers. They love the other dogs and are great with people of all ages. They tend towards the mellow, gentle side and love nothing more than hanging out with their families. Blanco and Cherub have been raised with nothing but love and it sure shows in their wonderful personalities. Why would anyone want to give them up? Their owner has to move to a place where pets are not allowed so sadly, they are searching for a new home. They are 4 years old and 80 lbs (Cherub) and 100 lbs (Blanco). Ideally, they would be placed together so if you are willing to open your home to 2 wonderful dogs to adopt or even to foster, it would be appreciated by all. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Bonnie
Breed: Terrier Cross Age: Senior Gender: Female Description: Looking for a friendly, sweet, and devoted little companion? A fellow couch potato for those lazy Sundays? Your biggest fan and admirer? That's our Bonnie. Bonnie was brought in with another dog (who was recently adopted), her best friend in the whole world, after her owner died. Although shell shocked at first, she is so polite and dignified that she settled into her foster home pretty easily. She is the first to greet you at the door with wags and butt wiggles. She loves walks, has great leash manners, and has the cutest trot, you'd think she was a former show dog. As delighted as she is to take her daily walk, she is definitely a more mellow girl, happy to hang out at home. She is so well mannered that her foster Mom leaves her loose at home during day with the resident dog. She is not a barker, but will alert you if someone is at the door or if there is a loud noise in the middle of the night. She is well adjusted, well socialized, housetrained, and so darn sweet and friendly you lose your heart to her pretty quickly. This little sweetheart gets along great with other dogs and does fine with cats too. She would be best living with adults since that is what she is used to, or older kids/teens would be fine too. She has absolutely no aggression and has done great with visiting kids, she just shys away from the commotion that super little ones can sometimes bring. Bonnie weighs about 15 pounds. Bonnie won't be able to attend the next adoption but her foster family is able to meet with approved applicants during the week. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, you can email Emily at emily-ruth@live.com. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Bounce (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Chow Chow / Lab Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Boing, boing, boing, Bounce has springs in his legs and loves to jump all around, play, and have fun. He is the ideal dog for someone wanting a puppy but a housetrained, fully grown puppy! He is energetic, friendly, and always has a smile on his face. He would love a home wanting a dog to play, run, and have fun with. But don't think he is all energy and no snuggles though! There is nothing Bounce loves more than to be someone's snuggly pillow and with his soft, plush coat he sure is a comfortable one. Bounce is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners. He is good with the other dogs and would make a great canine companion and cannot go to a home with cats. He loves kids though likes to bounce off them so probably best with older kids who won't be bounced to the ground and then covered in loving slobber! Bounce is 100% heart and we love him for it! He would be an excellent first time dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |
|
Name: Brady
Breed: Pointer Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Brady is a young adult Pointer mix with a sweet, gentle personality. For a young Pointer mix he sure is much mellower than you'd expect. He does love his walks, playtime, and time to run around the yard but once he is tired out she loves to sleep on the couch and cuddle with his family. He is used to kids and loves them, ignores the cats, and enjoys playing with the other dogs. He is so smart and is already housetrained on a schedule and cratetrained. Brady is the kind of dog who could fit in anywhere... first time dog owner, a family, or a single person wanting a loving companion. He is about 60 lbs. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. (Note - Brady does not attend pet adoptions but his foster family is able to meet with approved applicants during the week) |

Name: Bubba
Breed: Lab Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Bubba is a loyal, loving Lab who adores his family with all his heart. He is housetrained, knows basic commands, gets along beautifully with cats, adores the other dogs, and does well with kids of all ages. So why would anyone want to give Bubba up? Well, Bubba is pretty handshy and nervous around men so it doesn't seem he was treated very nicely. He is never aggressive but spends most of his time hiding behind his foster mom when 'scary' men are around. If you raise your voice, he instantly will hit the ground, expecting the worst punishment. Otherwise, Bubba is perfect. He loves kids more than anything in the world and would be an amazing addition to a family with some kids. He is their pillow, their crumb cleaner upper, their 'guard dog' for the monsters under the bed, and a best friend. He has lived with cats and loves to play with other dogs. He is the hit of the dog park, loves his walks (walks nicely on a gentle leader or a choke chain), but is happiest right near his family being loved on. He is reliable off leash once he knows you as well. Bubba is amazing. All he needs is a home with some extra patience and love willing to help a shy, scared boy through his fears. He is easily a favorite at his foster home. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Bucky
Breed: Rat Terrier Age: Mature Adult Gender: Male Description: Bucky, affectionately known as Mr. Bucktooth in his foster home, is a slightly ugly, grumpy old man with a heart of pure gold! This dog worships his foster dad and waits patiently for his dad to get home from work everyday. He sits there patiently on the front steps waiting and watching. When he sees his dad pull up the driveway, oh boy! You get to see that happiest side of Bucky...he runs out to the truck and hops right in with his best friend. Then they walk into the house together and spend their evenings inseparable. Bucky loves to snuggle on laps, makes goofy grumbly noises when you hit the right scratchy spot, and is just a little love. He doesn't show this side right away of course, he likes to make sure you are worthy of his affections. Once you have earned his heart, you will never lose it though. He would do anything for those he loves. Bucky is tolerant of other pets, tolerates kids but would prefer they didn't bother him, and would love a person or a couple to love on and devote his life to. He is housetrained, crated or loose for the workday, and well mannered. He loves napping on the couch, hanging out with his favorite people, and watching the world go by from his perch in the window. |

Name: Bud (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners")
Breed: Spaniel / Chocolate Lab Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Bud is an adult, medium sized, charming Spaniel/Chocolate Lab cross who has such a neat temperament that the pound workers were begging for his life. He somehow wiggled out of his kennel every night and was there to happily greet them at the front door in the mornings! He is a fun, happy, steady tempered dog who does fine with kids and other pets. His main goal in life is to do the right thing, and be with his people, and show what he knows. |

Buddy is great with other dogs and has lived with cats as well. Like any young dog, he loves to play, loves to play fetch, and adores going to the dog park and for walks. He is a fabulous example of a well-raised, well-loved dog. Buddy would do well in a home that wants an active, loving companion to join their life. He is a family dog through and through! Name: Cagney (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
(I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home")
Breed: Rat Terrier Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Every weekend at the adoptions people pass me by. I sit in my crate, I watch the people pass by, and I realize that no one wants me. I'm prematurely grey, a little on the older side (5-6 years old), and quite frankly not that cute. I love my foster mom, she tells me how much she loves me and how cute I am. However, I used to have a real home with my own person and I didn't have to share with all these pesky dogs! I love my people with all my heart and I love to sit in their laps. I bond with my whole heart, snuggle up under the covers at night, and do the best happy dance when my family comes home. I tolerate the other dogs but I would prefer to live without them...they get in my face and steal my bones which I don't like too much. I'm housetrained, cratetrained (but don't need it), and my house manners are second to none. I'm good with kids but prefer a quieter adult home if possible. My foster mom is great and she sure loves me but nothing beats my own home. Won't you please be the one to give it to me? You can email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |

Name: Candy
Breed: Retriever Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Candy came into rescue so shy and scared but after 2 weeks of love and care in her foster home she has turned into the biggest love sponge you'll ever meet! Candy loves to snuggle, loves to be pet, and absolutely hands down adores her foster family. She was rescued after Hurricane Ike and came to Minnesota to try her luck at a home here. We can see why those who rescued her down south loved her because she is wonderful! She is working very hard on her housetraining and with a schedule and a crate she is accident free at her foster home. She loves to learn and please her people. Candy is a little unsure in the house at times (with stairs, tile floor) but give her 5 minutes, a little encouragement, and a treat and she acts like she's been there her whole life! Candy is good with visiting kids but used to an older child/ adult home. She is moderately active, likes her walks but equally enjoys to snuggle on the couch with her owners. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Capone
Breed: African Boerboel Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Meet Capone! This big beautiful boy is and African Boerboel, also known as a South African Mastiff. He's huge, weighing around 130 pounds and only 13 months old so he may grow even larger than what he is now. Capone was surrendered to rescue due to the economy. He's a really sweet boy with a huge heart. He knows some obedience but is still learning and should go to some classes. He is housebroken and crate trained. Capone does well with most other dogs as long as they aren't dominant towards him. He does well with kids 10+ and should not be placed with smaller children due to his size. Capone will need a dog experienced home due to his breed. He will require a home visit as well. He loves to play with other dogs and would do well with another large breed dog that would play with him. He loves to bounce and jump around but does not jump up on people. Capone loves to sleep in bed with his family but will also sleep in his kennel if you want him to. He has the potential to be a really great dog with the correct owner! If you'd like to meet Capone you'll have to come to his foster home as he will more than likely not attend pet adoptions. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Carlos (Adoption Pending!)
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mastiff Cross Age: Puppy Gender: Male Description: Carlos is an 8-9 week old Am. Staff/Mastiff mix puppy who can be shy at first but he warms up quickly. He is doing very well on kennel training and potty training. Carlos is working on basic commands and he is learning quickly. He is being socialized with a lot of other dogs and kids. He is a fun puppy with a very sweet disposition. He loves to wiggle around and snuggle with the kids. Carlos was rescued from the freezing cold weather and loves to be warm now that he can be! He will make a great addition to anyone's family! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Carson (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids")
Breed: Shepherd / Collie Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Carson is a 40 pound regal looking Shepherd/Collie? mix, a young adult dog who only looks all fancied up... he loves nothing more than playing in the mud and finding fun with the kids. Carson is a serious dog at first, lots of watching to see what is expected from him, and quickly warms up and releases his 'inner happy puppy', complete with face washing kisses and furry tail wag hugs. He is housetrained with a routine, crated for the workday, gentle and more on the mellow side with some playful traits emerging. We adore him. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions or wish for an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

Name: Chauncey and Jenner (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Pointer / Lab Crosses Age: Adult Gender: 2 Males Description: Remember your best friend in elementary school and how you would want to do everything with them? Well, that kind of friendship is much what these 2 brothers share. They are dogs who love each other so much that we would love for them to be adopted together. It will take someone with an extra large heart, willing to open their home to 2 shyer, gentle dogs but we are hoping someone out there can find the time, love, and patience to give these 2 brothers a happy ever after together. They do everything together: potty, eat, sleep, share a kennel, snuggle up when it's cold, and even like to take walks right next to one another. They are shy dogs, life has not been kind to them but they bond hard once they know you and they get so excited to see their foster mom that they hit each other in the face with their wagging tails! It will take patience and time and treats but they will certainly bond with someone else as well. They are housetrained on a schedule, cratetrained, and so quiet they never make a fuss in the house. Because of their shyness, they would do best with a physically fenced yard. It would be excellent to get them into an obedience class for shyer dogs or have someone work with them on confidence building. Once they get to know someone and trust, they show how much they love you daily and are very loyal. We have seen so many shy dogs come around in their forever homes to be loyal, loving companions and we know they will too. They have come so far in rescue and are such sweet boys that we hope someone with a big heart full of love, time, and patience comes along and sees the special potential we all see in Jenner and Chauncey. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Chelsea (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs who have Been Patiently Waiting for a Home")
Breed: Beagle Age: Mature Adult Gender: Female Description: Chelsea is a beautiful, older Beagle mix looking for a loving home who wants a gentle, loving gal. She is perfect with little kids and other pets, so patient with everyone, and downright amazing. She is housetrained, cratetrained, has wonderful house manners, and is reliable off leash once she bonds. Chelsea is a special dog for many reasons. Her amazing personality is obviously the first thing that makes her special. The next is that she is deaf. That's right, this beautiful girl is deaf. It doesn't stop her from anything and she sure doesn't care. She doesn't have to be able to hear to find a lap to cuddle in or a person to love! Chelsea doesn't have any special requirements from being deaf, just her owners realizing it and not expecting her to be able to hear them! She is a great dog, overlooked because she is a bit older at about 6 years old but Beagles live a long time and she is determined to spend the rest of her long life loving her new family. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, you can email Jackie at jackiesinger@comcast.net. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Cora
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mastiff Cross Age: Puppy Gender: Female Description: Cora is an 9-11 week old Am. Staff/Mastiff mix puppy full of spunk. She is outgoing and has lots of puppy energy. She is getting well socialized in her foster home with a Chihuahua, a Pit mix and her brother from the litter. Cora is doing awesome on potty training and kennel training. She is very playful but also loves to cuddle. Cora is working on basic commands and she is a very quick learner. She came to rescue from a family that didn't want to care for them. They were rescued from this freezing cold weather about a week ago and she really appreciates being warm. Cora loves kids and to snuggle! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. Name: Corky (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best 'Therapy Dog Candidates'")
Breed: Collie / Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Welcome to the world of rescue! The other dogs asked me to be the advocate, because I am such a sweet dog and such a great representation of rescue dogs. My name is Corky, sort of a tomboy name for a lady like me. I am a medium sized female Collie/Shepherd type cross, and I am gentle and loving with every living being. I am already housetrained and crate trained, although I don't care for the kennel... I like it better closed into the downstairs if I have to be confined. I would make such a wonderful first time family dog. I have a bad habit of needing a leash outside, or someone out there with me... I can climb a fence if left outside alone. I sure like being near people. Being abandoned at the pound sort of makes a girl insecure. If you think you might like to add a gorgeous fluffball to your family home, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Curious (aka Jack) (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners"
AND HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home")
(Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Jack Russel Terrier Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Jack, nicknamed Curious at his foster home, is a calmer, well behaved, loving Jack Russell Terrier who has nice house manners and is happy tossing squeaky toys in the air, going for walks, playing fetch and then cuddling up for a snuggle time. He likes his playtime absolutely, but is much more settled than most Terriers we see! Jack is housetrained, crate trained, not a barker and loves to meet new people. He tolerates the other dogs at his foster home, but would love to be an only dog if he could. He does fine with the visiting kids. Jack came to rescue with severe dental issues, so had some teeth pulled. He is now looking and feeling much better! He can eat food just fine, he just looks a little silly! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Dakota (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Mellowest Dogs")
Breed: Rat Terrier Age: Mature Adult Gender: Male Description: Dakota is a mature adult Rat Terrier looking for a home that wants a well-mannered snuggly companion that enjoys walks as well. Dakota is housetrained, cratetrained, and has ideal manners in the house. He is good with other dogs (though likes those who respect his space best), okay with older dog-savvy kids, and cannot go to a home with cats. He loves car rides, loves to sleep in bed at night, and gets so excited when he sees his leash come out! Dakota has food allergies to chicken so is fed a beef dog food and does well on it. He has been well trained and knows how to sit and is reliable ff leash once he knows you. He loves his squeaky toys but otherwise is more mellow in the house, pepping up for his walks. He is the whole package..manners, smarts, and love! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease. You may email Michelle at mschumack@yahoo.com for more information. Name: Demi (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Canine Companions")
Breed: Pointer Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Demi is an adult female Pointer who has the most beautiful chocolate coat and friendly nature! She was found as an unclaimed stray and someone lost a treasure. She is smart as a whip, loves people, and thinks the best things in the world are going for a run with her foster dad and then snoozing out in the sunshine or on the couch by her foster mom. She is good with older kids and adores the other dogs! Demi would be a terrific canine companion. She is housetrained on a schedule and crates well for the workday. She is active and loves to play, run, and have fun but knows how to settle down in the house and is a master at hunting out the couch for a snooze. She has no known hunting abilities. Though she would love to try her hand at it, she needs to be adopted to a home that will love her regardless of whether she can hunt or not. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Diamond (Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Want an adorable dog that will look like a puppy forever? Then come check out Diamond! This sweet little Pitty girl has it all, brains and beauty. She has an awesome personality and is always wagging her tail and looks like she has a smile on her face. She's about 8-10 months old and full grown at 45 pounds, so is at a really great size too. Diamond loves other dogs and does great with kids. She does need some training but will learn so quickly. Diamond was probably previously kept outdoors, as things in the house seem to scare her a bit, but she's warming up quickly and loves the couch and her dog beds already. She is crate trained and mostly housebroken already but will need a schedule at first. She's a really great girl and will make a wonderful addition to someone's family! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Diamond 2
Breed: Heinz 57 Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Diamond is a gem of a dog, pretty white with patches in color. She is a total mutt with about a million different breeds in her, so pick your favorite! She is under a year old and a total puppy still. She loves to get into innocent puppy mischief and have fun. She is an active girl and loves to be out and about playing. She loves toys, bones, and playing with the other dogs. She would love another dog to play with or someone really committed to dog park time. She is so smart and would love to be enrolled in an obedience class to learn more tricks/commands. We see agility potential in this gal as well! She is good with older kids as well. Diamond is housetrained and crates well for the workday. She is so much fun and just a joy to be around. She has been raised in a home with love and it shows very much in her social, outgoing personality. Diamond does have one requirement for her new home - it needs to be fenced, either a physical fence or an invisible fence. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, please email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

Name: Disney
Breed: Yorkie / Terrier Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Disney is a silly, always happy Yorkie/Terrier mix who is a joy to have around. Though a little shy at first, he warms up and shows off his goofy puppy side. He is an adolescent 9 month old dog so very puppy in personality and needs some continued training and socializing. He loves to learn and has the sharp Terrier mind so training him is a breeze. He is housetrained, crates for the workday, and has good manners in the house. Disney hasn't been well-socialized so can show some shyness with men...his new owner should be willing to work through this and give him plenty of positive opportunities to learn the world is a wonderful place. He would be best in an older child home (12+). |

Name: Duke
Breed: Yorkie Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Duke the Yorkie who may have a smaller sized body (5 pounds!) but sure has a BIG personality! He came to us from a family that loved him a lot, but unfortunately there Duke developed some leadership mistakes... being he thought HE got to be the boss. He is in an experienced foster home now that set some clear, firm boundaries right away and in a new place, with new rules and an enforcer, he is doing well and is now very cuddly with them. He did test them a bit, but seemed to relax when someone else had to worry about ruling the world and he could be a dog. Duke needs an adult-only home with dog experience. He was surrendered to HB because he wasn't thrilled about living with kids and wants to make sure he goes to an adult-only home because he just plain doesn't like kids and isn't shy about letting them know how he feels about them! So if kids come over to visit, Duke needs to go into another room where he won't be bothered. He is housetrained and cratetrained. He is a playful little feller who loves to play with his chew toys, enjoys playing tug of war, and even fetch! Duke is NOT amused about MN winters so needs to wear dog sweaters and live in a nice warm house! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Rachel at lpuppylove4u@aol.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Duster (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Mellowest Dogs")
Breed: Black Lab / Spaniel Cross Age: Mature Adult Gender: Female Description: Duster is a female adult/mature adult chubby Black Lab/Spaniel mix. Mid-size in height, she needs to lose some pounds. Duster packed the pounds on by being a lazier, go with the flow girl who liked her (super cheap = super fattening/very little nutrients) food a little too much. Duster is gentle, patient, quiet, well trained inside. She does well with her walks and loves the car. Duster is reliable off leash once attached. She is housetrained, will crate quietly but also does fine gated into the kitchen when alone. Dogs like Duster break our hearts, how someone could have let this sweet middle aged lady land in the pound and then leave her there is so sad. She is so sweet and so loving. UPDATE: Duster's foster mom has fallen totally in love with her. In 7 years of rescue, Duster is by far one of her easiest fosters. She is totally housetrained and even stands by the door when she needs to go out. She becomes very attached to 'her' house and is trustworthy off leash. Duster ignores the kitties and is fine with kids, although she does prefer the quieter adults. She almost never barks and doesn't need to be crated because she is so well behaved in the house. Although Duster's foster mom loves her to pieces, she really wants Duster to find an awesome home where she will be a much loved member of the family. |

Name: Emma
Breed: Boxer / Beagle Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Emma is a 3 year old female Boxer/Beagle who strongly resembles a mini Pointer. Besides being cute, sweet Emma has training, was well raised, and is smart too! Emma is sadly seeking a new home due to a lifestyle change on the part of her owner. She loves playing, loves walks and swimming and meeting new friends, but is able to transition down to 'cuddle mode' very easily. Emma is housetrained and used to kids. She does need Chicken Soup dog food, many other brands make her tummy upset, but that is easy to find in a pet store! This is a well rounded, well adjusted, exceptional dog. She is about 40 pounds. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com |

She is currently in foster with two adults, an 11 year old child, and other dogs and two kitties as well and she does fantastic with all of them. She just wants to find her forever home!! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Gilligan (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs")
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Gilligan is a cute, little Jack Russell Terrier with some serious hero worship on his foster om. He is a little shy at first but warms up so quickly with some treats and love. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, not a barker, and has good manners in the house. He is good with older kids as well. Gilligan has a silly side and loves to carry toys around the house trying to entice his foster family to play. He loves to go for walks as well but is equally happy snuggling up on someone's lap. He tolerates the other dogs but would love nothing better than being your one and only. He likes to play with toys and as his confidence grows he grabs a stuffed toy and races around the room with it in his mouth! He is cute as can be and such a sweetheart. UPDATE: Gilligan would be ideal for an retired person/couple wanting a loving, mellow dog to hang around the house with, go for walks, and snuggle. Gilligan doesn't love to be alone so does better when someone is around more often than not...and who wouldn't want to spend time with him? He's got it all! Manners, looks, and a great personality. He is more on the mellow side but does like to go for walks too when the weather isn't too cold out (he's a wimp!). He sleeps in bed at night, is fine with the other dogs and cats, good with kids, and has great house manners. He is the whole package when it comes to great dogs. |

Name: Goliath
Breed: Black Lab Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Goliath is true to his name! He is a 100 lb Black Lab who is gorgeous! Rescued as a stray by a kind person, he has found his place in the home with other dogs and cats...unfortunately those who found him cannot keep him. Goliath has been well loved, trained, and is so smart! He is housetrained, crates for the workday, not a barker, and knows some basic commands. He loves to run and play, fetches like a dream dog, and would love nothing better than going for long walks/runs with his family. He would do best in a home with older kids because of his size! He loves to learn, loves to please his people, and is about the happiest Lab you'll ever meet! If you like Labs, you'll love Goliath! He does not attend adoptions but can be met during the week with approved applicants. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Grizz (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home")
(Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Sheltie / Chow Chow Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Grizz is a tough name for a total marshmallow of a dog! He is so fluffy and cute and happy you just want to squish him! Grizz is a young adult male Sheltie/Chow, a 40 pound fluffball of hugs and kisses. He is young, so still learning manners, but is a lower key, happy, easygoing dog who is very easy to train. He is fostered with kids, cats and other dogs, and though he does fine with the kids, we can see just how much Grizz would rather be the only dog in the house....he's so tired of being around other canines! Grizz has such a pretty deep red coat. He is housetrained with a routine (but accidents at first, which is normal), crated for the workday, and loves his walks. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Harley and Winston
Breed: Shepherd Cross and English Mastiff Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Meet Harley (the tri-colored Shepherd mix) and Winston (the cute English mastiff)! This dynamic duo is seeking a foster or permanent home by the end of March due a move to a rental unit. These dogs have been so well loved and cared for. Ideally, they'd get to stay together, as they are very attached and although both big dogs, well behaved and sweet. Harley is 5 years old and about 70 pounds. He is always ready to play fetch or go for walks. Winston is 3 years old and about 175 pounds, and more the lazier homebody of the 2. They both know sit, shake, and lie down, and only bark when someone they don't know is at the door. Both boys are very patient with kids, used to having a three year old around. If you can offer these amazing boys a foster or forever home, please contact us immediately. To foster the pair, contact Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net and to consider adopting, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. Thanks! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |

Name: Harriet
Breed: Terrier Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Harriet is a lady who feels that people should work hard to get the best things in life. She had to work really hard, first to survive the hurricanes and come to MN, and then to overcome her fears in order to be adoptable. Harriet has blossomed so much with us. This 35 pound Terrier mix is so bonded to her foster mom, and is a very happy, outgoing, normal dog at her home. She has learned to nicely walk on the leash, she is housetrained with a routine, crates quietly, and is friendly and social with the kids and cats there. She likes the kids and the treats they drop, but Harriet is a 'woman's dog' all the way. What Harriet seeks is a confident, calm person to show her what is expected, be clear and consistent, and they'll have a lifelong case of hero worship on them. She needs a natural leader, a calm confident person to lead the way so she can safely follow. She tolerates other dogs just fine, likes the ones who allow her her space as she does for them, but would do fine as an only dog also. The fenced yard is ideal, but for a committed walker she would be ok. The best home in the world is one who has some experienced with abused/insecure dogs, wants a dog who will give their entire heart and soul to them, and has the patience to allow some time to transition. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire.. |

Breed: Standard Schnauzer Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Homer is a medium sized, initially shy but quick to warm up Standard Schnauzer cross. This poor guy has had a rough past, and he has some very workable baggage. Homer is a little shy at first, but give him a little patience and time and he gives you 110% of himself. Housetrained, crate trained, great with other pets, Homer needs the security of his own home. You may email Megan at homewardbounddogrescue@yahoo.com if you have questions or would like to receive a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Jasper (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids")
Breed: Border Collie / Lab Cross Age: Puppy Gender: Male Description: Jasper the friendly pup, the friendliest pup you'll know! This 4 month old Border Collie/ Lab mix is super smart for his age, loves the kids with a passion, and gets along well with the other dogs. He is close to housetrained, cratetrained, and is everything you would expect from a puppy. He is in love with the other dogs and kids at his foster home...he would be an excellent family or companion dog! Like any pup, he likes to chew but loves rawhides so much that it isn't hard for him to keep his mouth to his appropriate toys. He is so smart and would love to learn more tricks at an obedience class...he's sure to be the star! |

Name: Jessie (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Canine Companions" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best 'Therapy Dog Candidates'")
Breed: Black Lab Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Jessie is affectionately known as Bigfoot because she has the biggest Lab feet and head. She is a sweetheart. Very loving, good with kids, adores the other dogs, and is so happy. She lived her life in a backyard with no attention or love but you'd never guess it by her personality. She is outgoing and so social. What Jessie does need though is leash manners...we joke that those big feet give her extra pulling power. However, she's highly trainable for someone willing to put in some time with her. She is amazing with the other dogs and loves them all. Jessie is learning how wonderful it is to be a house dog now and is loving every minute of it. She is working on her housetraining, crates quietly for the workday. She is everything you could want from a Lab...outgoing, loves toys, loves to play, and always happy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Kelty (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Black Lab Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Kelty may look like a junkyard dog on the outside but inside she is a total marshmallow! Lab lovers will adore this girl. She is outgoing, always happy, loves people, and so smart. She is housetrained and cratetrained. She knows how to sit, lay down, and is working on shake as well. She is reliable off leash once she knows you as well. She aims to please and loves to learn. She walks okay on the leash with a choke collar, gets along great with other dogs, and loves older kids who can throw a ball for her. She absolutely hands down is the most tennis-ball-loving dog we have ever met. Kelty loves nothing more than a good game of fetch. It's even better if she has a ball in her mouth and another dog or person to chase her around and play. She would make an amazing family companion. Kelty loves to play outside and go for walks but once she is tired out she is so happy to lie by her family's feet and relax. She loves to hang out and munch on bones. Kelty has been with Homeward Bound for over 2 years and not one of us can figure out why...yes, she's a big black Lab, doesn't draw attention to herself at the adoptions, and sure isn't going to win any beauty contests. However, what Kelty has going for her is personality. She is a goofball that snorts and snores her way around the yard and house. Sometimes her foster mom thinks she brought a pig home instead of a dog with the snorting but it sure keeps everyone laughing! She is loving and within days followed her foster family from room to room wanting to be near and love on them. She aims to please. She picked up so quickly that her foster mom did not tolerate jumping up for a greeting or pulling on the leash and ever since then has been so good. However, if you ask her for a hug, she is happy to give one! Kelty has been waiting for someone to come take her home for so long. She deserves a great home to love her and give her lots of attention, tennis balls, and love. You can see more pictures and video of Kelty here http://s794.photobucket.com/albums/yy226/lberg05/Kelty/. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm/lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. I'm a spotlight dog! Please check out my blog page to learn more about how wonderful I am www.homewardboundrescue.blogspot.com! |

Name: Kermit
Breed: Border Collie / Lab Cross Age: Puppy Gender: Male Description: Kermit is a 3-4 month old Border Collie/Lab mix puppy, and he wins the mature puppy award. Kermit does have fun, but we have never seen a puppy take his training so seriously. He loves to learn, and works so very hard to show off what he knows. Kermit is a moderate energy puppy, fostered in a home with kids, cats and other dogs. This dog has limitless potential...he is an ideal family dog, therapy dog, companion dog, obedience dog, the list goes on an on! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. Name: Khia
Breed: Husky Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Khia is a gorgeous 1 year old husky who is everything a husky should be. Khia needs a home who is experienced and understands the husky breed and all the wonderful things they have to offer, including their stubbornness. She is a bigger husky, weighing around 65lbs. Khia is a very vocal dog and loves to talk. She is housebroken, crate trained, and knows a few commands as well. She has be raised with other dogs, but is an alpha female, and can be a bit bossy with dogs who are not in her 'pack.' She loves ALL people, even kids. She loves to play and thrives on being the center of attention. Khia must go to an indoor home only and a home visit and fenced yard ARE required, no exceptions. You can email Linzy at rc_lg@live.com with questions. |

Name: Kira
Breed: Black German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Kira is an adult German Shepherd Dog/Belgian Malinois cross (best guess anyways). She is everything you would expect from a combination of those breeds...active, intelligent, driven, fearless, and loyal. She was rescued from a neglect situation which has left her wary of strangers. Not so much shy but watchful, alert, and slow to hand over her trust. Earning her trust takes effort, patience, and time but once you have it you have the most loyal dog you'll have ever met. She is what we call a 'one person dog' meaning that she bonds hard to one person and everyone else is far less important in her eyes. She will do anything for the one she loves. You see, Kira lived without love for so long now that she has it she doesn't want to lose it. She doesn't like to swim at all but when her foster mom ran and jumped off the dock into a lake, Kira followed suit to make sure she was safe. She'll sit for hours by her foster mom's side when she is hurt or sick, which is no small challenge for a dog as active as her. Typical working breed, Kira needs a 'job' to do. She needs a mental and physical outlet for her energy and intelligence. She is great at agility and already knows the jumps, tunnels, and is learning the weaves. She also loves to play fetch with anything that squeaks (squeaky tennis balls are her favorites). She would excel at obedience as well. She knows many commands/tricks already and always wants to learn more. Kira is so smart she often learns what to do just by watching her foster mom to see what she wants. She knows sit, down, heel, come, shake (both paws), leave it, drop it, touch (she touches her nose to whatever you tell her to), find your____, get it, back up, and for rollerblading knows left, right, slow up, and halt. She is housetrained and cratetrained, though she hates being confined so needs either a very sturdy, reinforced crate or someone home more often than not. Kira does okay with other larger dogs and likes to play with the ones that share her rough and rowdy play style, though not a dog to bring to a dog park. She does have the high prey drive known to her breeds so cannot go to a home with small animals, cats, rodents, or small dogs (under ~30 lbs). Kira would do best in a home with someone who understands and has experience with her breed/s. She is not the dog for everyone but in the right home, she is amazing. Go to http://s794.photobucket.com/albums/yy226/lberg05/Kira/ to see more pictures of Kira! You can email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |
|
Name: Lacey
Breed: Rat Terrier Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Lacey is a female adult Rat Terrier mix, recently rescued from life as a puppy mill. This shyer girl takes a bit to warm up, but once in your arms she snuggles right in, happy as can be for any attention. She is excellent with other dogs and cats, and tolerates dog savvy kids of all ages although prefers the predicability of adults. The ideal home for a mill rescue dog is one with a fenced yard, another dog to show them the ropes of how to be a normal dog, and a patient, committed owner who understands that these dogs have been through lifelong trauma and are extra deserving of the time and effort it takes to break the shyness. She is working on housetraining, keeps her crate clean for the workday, and is very quiet. For obvious reasons, this dog MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Kathy at klbruen@msn.com for more information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. Lacey does not attend all pet adoptions. She will not be at the Feb 6th adoption. |

Name: Leila
Breed: Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Leila....she is very likely one of the saddest dogs in the world right now. This poor dog has been in the pound since September, and staff cannot bring themselves to put her down because she is so darn sweet. She IS a little pudgy, but that's because she'd just as soon lounge around as play. Personally, we like them a little on the lower key side! Leila is housetrained, although might have some accidents as she transitions to being in a home again. Gentle, great with kids and other dogs, Leila needs a promised foster or an interested adopter to use her 'get out of jail card' soon. She watches her friends leave, and is getting sadder and sadder that nobody notices her. She is about 45 pounds, a Shepherd mix of some sort, and would be so grateful to have someone pick her. If interested in being a foster or adopter, email kadams4545@hotmail.com with questions. If fostering is an option, check out our Foster Facts page on the site. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |

Name: Lizzy
Breed: Chihuahua / Doxie? Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Lizzy is a cute Chihuahua mix (perhaps with Doxie) who is gentle, quiet, and just wants a lap to snuggle in. She was rescued from a neglect situation so is a little unsure of herself but can spot an open lap with ease! She loves nothing better than to snuggle for hours on end with her family, especially if they let her sleep under the covers. Lizzy is housetrained on a schedule but really relies on her owners to ask to let her out since she doesn't want to make a fuss. She crates quietly for the workday, not a barker, or a chewer. She gets along well with other pets but is unsure of herself with small kids so must go to a home with kids over 13. If you think you can give a shy, sweet dog a home just wanting a lap to sit on and someone to love please check out Lizzy. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Lucy
Breed: Basset Hound / Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Lucy is a female adult Basset Hound / Shepherd, a dog with a past who haunts her sometimes. Lucy's past is unknown, but she has obviously been not well socialized and possibly hurt before her first adoption. She was adopted into a home and adored her people, skittish sometimes but very loving and wanted to please. However, Lucy does not know how to relate to other dogs so she is nervous around them and shows it by acting tough. She is doing well at her foster home with other dogs because her foster home is experienced enough and sets boundaries for her. Once she knows what is expected of her, she sticks to it! She is well housetrained, not a chewer, barks appropriately. She is friendly with kids but prefers to live in an adult home. She would do best with a fenced yard and an experienced owner who will set boundaries for her in a firm and loving way. Lucy has a lot of strikes against her for adoption, but we sure are hoping someone out there is rooting for the underdog, and wants to make her a part of their lives. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

(Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Doxie / Min Pin Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Matilda is an adult female Doxie/Min Pin, black and tan, and the best of both breeds. She was an unclaimed stray and is uncertain what happened to land her in rescue. Housetrained, crate trained, a little shy but so sweet once you win her trust, this little dog is a champion lap dog/cuddler. She is used to a quieter adult home, and enjoys the other dogs and cats but would also be just as happy as an only dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Micah
Breed: Black Lab Cross Age: Puppy Gender: Male Description: Micah is sad. For about 9 weeks now (he is about 13 weeks) he has been passed by time and again for smaller puppies, ones with more white, ones that stand out a bit more. He is a gentle, loving, well adjusted Lab mix puppy but does not stand out enough to be noticed. Micah is used to living with kids, cats and other dogs and the training has been well started. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |

Name: Mitzi (aka JoJo)
Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Hey, where's Mitzi? I can't see her....oh wait, there she is - she's burrowed into the soft blankets! This cute gal is all about keeping herself warm so whoever adopts her needs to provide soft blankets for her to snuggle under! She'll need cute sweaters as well, though we haven't convinced her to wear doggie booties yet! Mitzi is a fun little dog who loves going on daily walks, playing with toys, chasing those pesky squirrels in the backyard, and showing off her athletic moves by jumping much higher than you'd expect a small dog to - we bet she'd like to learn some agility to put those impressive abilities to good use! Though shy with strangers at first, once Mitzi knows and trusts you she's your loyal buddy for life. She would be happiest in a home with adults, though is fine with the older kids who are respectful. She's fostered with other dogs and does fine with them, but does show preference towards smaller dogs. She'd be happy as an 'only' dog too. She is not fostered with cats but the cats she has looked at from afar don't seem to interest her. She barks appropriately (such as when the doorbell rings or when a darn squirrel gets too close to the house and torment her) EXCEPT at pet adoptions. At pet adoptions she barks quite a bit (especially when she sees her foster mom, as she's trying to tell her foster mom that she'd much prefer to be out of the crate, thank you very much! She crates nicely at home. She weighs around 15 pounds. She is one of those sweet little dogs who when she trusts, she gives her whole self to you. The love just shines from her. All she needs is someone to be patient with her so they can see that love pouring out! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

Name: Modo
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Age: Puppy Gender: Female Description: Modo is an adorable chocolate and white Am Staff puppy. We're guessing that she was born sometime late September - early October. She was picked up as a stray. The poor little baby was wandering around all alone with a broken leg. We were able to get her to the vet right away and her prognosis is very good. She's a spunky fun little girl who gets along well with her foster dog brothers and sisters and is a world class snuggler. She'll have to wear her splint until the end of February, but it doesn't slow her down at all. Her house and crate training are coming along well for her age, but being a baby can only 'hold' it for a few hours. She is hoping for a family that will take her to obedience classes so she can show everyone how smart she is and become a great ambassador for her breed. She is current on her vaccinations and has been wormed, spayed, and microchipped. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. You can email Sherri at sweeperjunkies@comcast.net for more information and/or a pre-adoption questionnaire. Name: Mogey (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids")
Breed: Spaniel / Lab Cross Age: Mature Adult Gender: Male Description: Mogey is a middle aged Spaniel/Lab cross, a 35-40 pound zippy little guy who loves everyone he meets right off the bat. Mogey was dumped at a pound, and we swear these older dogs know when they get that second chance. Mogey is housetrained, very much enjoys the kids and the other dogs at his foster, and is even good with the cats. He loves to play ball and follow the kids everywhere they go, sort of Mary's Little Lamb. He is often overlooked, greying muzzle and nondescript looks, but he is so affectionate, such a people pleaser, and just amazing. |

Name: Mollie (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs who have Been Patiently Waiting for a Home" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best Mellowest Dogs")
Breed: Heinz 57 Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Looking for a best friend? How about a furry buddy to tell all your secrets to? Well, Mollie would love to take on that role! She is a shy, gentle heinz 57 who came from Louisiana after surviving the hurricanes. Needless to say with all she has seen, she is a little scared and unsure of herself. Within a week at her foster home she learned how awesome people are and fell head over heels in love with her foster mom. Mollie follows her foster mom everywhere, worships the ground she walks on, and thinks her one job in life is to make her mom happy. Mollie gets along okay with her foster dad a well but bonds hardest to one or two people. She is perfect with cats and tolerates other dogs (though will 'protect' her foster mom from them if they get in the way). She needs a home with no kids since they terrify her. Mollie is housetrained, crates quietly, and loves to nap on the couch. She is calm and mellow in the house and absolutely loves to snuggle. She is shy around new people but never aggressive, just finds her favorite person and hangs out by them. Mollie is a favorite at her foster home and so deserving of a loving home of her own after all she has seen. Would you like to be her best friend? For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Rachel at lpuppylove4u@aol.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Mulligan
Breed: Black Lab Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Mulligan wants a mulligan! He's looking for a second chance at a good life this time. He is a big boy, full of love for his family, and looking for a happy ending after his stay in the pound. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, and loves everything a lab should love...dog parks, fetch, swimming, and playing with the kids. He is smart as can be, loves to learn, and would love nothing more than to have his family teach him some fun tricks. His leash manners stink but he's ready to learn if you're ready to put the time in. Mulligan was an unclaimed stray and ended up at the pound. We sure can't tell why. This boy has a super happy attitude and is friendly as can be. He is great with other dogs, loves the kids, and has never met a stranger. If you would like to give Mulligan a do-over, please come check him out. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Murphy (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs who have Been Patiently Waiting for a Home")
Breed: Doberman / Lab Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Murphy is amazing! He is a leggy gentleman who loves absolutely nothing more than playing some fetch, snuggling up with his foster family, and just hanging out with a rawhide. He is reliably housetrained and crated for the workday. He's still young enough where the kids' toys sometimes become his but they're learning to clean up and he is learning not to chew on Barbies! Murphy is great with other dogs, okay with cats (will chase though!), and adores kids of all ages. He is fostered with little kids to teenagers and is loved by all. He is a wonderful blend of having maturity in manners but still some playful puppyness to him. He knows some tricks, walks well on a choke collar, and aims to please his people. Murphy is the whole package when it comes to great family dogs or dogs for first time owners. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Odin
Breed: Presa Canario Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Meet Odin! This absolutely amazing Presa boy is so sweet. He loves human affection and you can tell he hasn't much of it! Odin has probably always been an outdoor dog but is quickly adapting to indoor life. Odin has been severely neglected, and is about 25 pounds under weight at the very least. Right now he only weighs 109, and should be around 120-130. He has rough elbows, basically telling us he's spent a lot of time laying on the hard ground. He also came to us with a huge chain line around his neck. Odin does not hold a grudge though and is so happy to know what love is all about. He's fostered with other dogs and children 10+ and has done very well with them. He's super sweet and loves to lay his head in our laps and have his little stubby ears rubbed. He's completely crate trained and very well started on house breaking already but does need a reminder every once in a while. Because of Odin's breed, he would do best in a dog experienced home, especially Mastiff experience. He is pretty quiet for the most part but will bark when strangers knock on the door. Once he gains all of his weight he will be very large and will knock small children down very easily. A fenced in yard would be ideal for him as well. Odin will require a home visit and can be met at his foster home or at the pet adoption. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Ollie
Breed: Cocker Spaniel Cross Age: Mature Adult Gender: Male Description: Ollie is a mature adult Cocker Spaniel mix, a handsome fellow with a recently bobbed tail due to an unfortunate run in with a car during his "stray days." This boy is ideal for a retired person who wants a constant companion, although he is wonderfully trained to be left for the workday as well. Perfectly housetrained and loves his walks, and learning to play with the other dogs now, Ollie is seeking an adult home who wants a quieter, affectionate companion. He is on lifelong pain meds for arthritis in his spine due to the car hitting him. The medications manage the pain very well and it costs about $35/month. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Cate at ckrose23@hotmail.com. |

Name: Ona
Breed: Lab / Kelpie Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Ona is a beautiful one year old Lab/Kelpie mix who has been spayed and has all her shots. She comes from a very loving home but her elderly owner is unable to handle her energy and strength. She needs a new home with a confident owner that will put her energy, curiosity and drive to work, to good use. Ona loves to fetch balls and steal her owner's socks from the bottom of the laundry basket. She does well with older children but has not yet learned the manners necessary for younger children. Ona is housebroken but needs to learn boundaries when left alone. She requires a fenced yard or a farm to run. When she is bored she gets into trouble by chewing on things that do not belong to her. She has not been around other dogs and doesn't know her own strength when she 'plays' with the cats. She learns quickly and knows how to sit and lie down. She will lay quietly by her owners chair and will let her know when company has arrived. She will be an extremely loyal and devoted companion to the right home. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

Name: Paco
Breed: Chihuahua Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Paco is a tough, 100 lb Rottie trapped in a tiny 10 lb Chihuahua body! This guy is Mr. Macho, Mr. Tough Guy, and thinks he rules the world...typical Chihuahua! He's full of sass and when it comes to being the boss, it's his way or the highway. He talks tough, grumbling and growling at everyone who picks him up and reminds him he is small but when he lets his guard down he is the best little cuddlebug. He loves to snuggle, loves to be held (on his terms), and enjoys his people companionship. He needs an adult only home since kids don't always respect his tough guy image. He is fostered with other dogs and does fine with them, though he will speak up if they get too rowdy around him. He will sometimes curl up and sleep next to the quieter dogs when he thinks no one is watching...it's hard to always keep up that tough guy image! If you like Chihuahua's you'll love Paco! He would do best in a Chihuahua experienced home willing to lay down some boundaries and show him that he doesn't get to be the king of the house. |

Name: Peanut (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs")
Breed: Rat Terrier / Min Pin Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: 'Bark, bark... can you hear me? I have spent WAY too long sitting in this place waiting to be noticed!' If peanut spoke English, that's what she'd be saying. Sweet Peanut is an adult female Terrier/Min Pin mix, a very smart and snuggly little dog who has spent months in rescue and is more than ready for her own home. She is housetrained, crate trained, and an absolute champion cuddler. She'll keep your bed the warmest one around! She prefers the predictability of adults although has been fine with visiting kids, and although she tolerates (looks down on) other dogs she'd LOVE to be the one and only canine in the home. Besides an uncanny ability to get the garbage, she is otherwise perfect. Please excuse her barking at adoption events, she wants everyone to stop and say hi to her. She is not that barky at home! |

Name: Peko
Breed: Chihuahua Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Peko is an adult black male chihuahua that lovers of this breed will just adore! He is everything you would expect...sassy, loyal, and goofy. He bonds to his people with all his heart and loves them to pieces. His favorite thing to do is snuggle himself right under the covers between his foster mom and dad to keep warm (Minnesota winters are not his thing!). Peko loves to lap sit, loves to snuggle, and equally likes to go on short walks when it isn't too cold out. He is housetrained on a schedule, crates for the workday, and has not been a chewer. He is fine with other pets, mostly ignores them and is unsure with kids so needs a home with kids over 13. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Perfect
Breed: Pug / Poodle / Doxie / Golden Retriever / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Bichon Age: Puppy Gender: Male / Female Description: Are you looking for a dog who has perfect manners, never has an accident, doesn't shed, adores children (even toddlers who tug on his ears or stumble on him while he is sleeping), needs no exercise, doesn't bark, has impeccable manners, never chews, and needs no training? Perfect is just that and then some. Perfect requires no heartworm preventative, never needs to be groomed, and never needs to go to the vet. He gets along with all other animals, even rabbits, and never even so much as grumbles at another animal, even if another dog is eating out of Perfect's dog dish. He'd be perfect for someone with a very busy life who isn't home much. If Perfect sounds like the perfect dog for you, you may find more dogs just like him at your local toy store. If Perfect DOES NOT sound quite what you are looking for in a pooch, you'll be a great guardian for a real dog! As you can see, we have tons of other wonderful, perfect-in-their-own-unique-way dogs! |

(Help! I need a Foster Home!)
Breed: Border Collie Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Petra is a loving, always happy Border collie mix. Nothing can get this girl down! She came into rescue with a sore paw and still greeted everyone she met with the happiest dog kisses anyone had ever had. Her paw has healed nicely and she still gives out the happiest kisses ever! She is a young girl and loves to play fetch, loves to play with toys, and is the dog park queen. She is at her happiest when she is running and playing with the other dogs or the kids! She is used to older kids and loves them to pieces. She likes the young ones too but has been known to kiss them flat onto the ground! She likes cats a little too much, so no cats for her please! Petra is housetrained on a schedule and crates well for the workday. She total love and joy barely contained into a furry border collie body. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from) UPDATE: Here's a secret...Petra is one of our favorites! She loves the kids, walks like an absolute angel on the leash, and is downright amazing. She would love a home with kids to play and love on. She seems to connect with kids and downright love their company so families looking for a dog, don't pass her by! She is a moderately active girl, loves her walks and playtime but snuggles right in with her kids at bedtime and sleeps with them all night. We are all amazed by here total family dog personality! I'm a spotlight dog! Please check out my blog page to learn more about how wonderful I am www.homewardboundrescue.blogspot.com! |

Name: Phoebe (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best 'Therapy Dog Candidates'")
Breed: Rat Terrier Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Phoebe is about the most perfect dog you will ever find, seriously, so we were all wondering why nobody else has noticed her yet. Smaller, quiet, housetrained, super snuggly, very much a lady inside as far as manners. She does well with kids, cats and other dogs, although her preferred home is in a quieter home with someone who can walk her and let her cuddle in bed with them. Phoebe is just such an amazing dog. That being said, after observing her at an adoption event, we now know why she gets passed by. Phoebe bonds hard and fast, and is so attached to her foster mom already that she sits peering out of her crate, waiting for Lisa to come back... and if someone takes her out to meet her, all she can think about is finding Lisa, and ignores the ones she should be kissing up to. Please give her a chance. She attaches well, and will give you her heart at home. You rarely see such a well trained, even tempered, smart little dog come through rescue. She loves her toys and knows some tricks! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Purdy (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Mellowest Dogs" AND
HB's Top 10 List for "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs")
Breed: Boxer / Lab Cross Age: Senior Gender: Female Description: Purdy may not look very pretty right now, but on the inside she has a heart of gold! This poor old girl was rescued from a neglectful situation and sat at the pound for an extended period of time. We don't know what her days were like before, but she has such a great attitude about life. Purdy has tons of spunk and even loves to run around and play with her foster family-don't let those gray whiskers fool you! She gets along well with other dogs, ignores the cats, and is fine around kids. Purdy is housetrained, not a barker, and cratetrained although she is so quiet and well behaved that she doesn't need one. Senior dogs are some of the very saddest to come into rescue because they have already been through so much, only to wind up homeless at a time when they should be enjoying life. UPDATE: When Purdy first came into rescue, she was a mess. Almost all the fur on her back end was missing from a previous flea infestation, and the skin was very raw and icky looking. She wasn't sure how to behave in the house, but quickly picked up on the rules. It has been several weeks now and the shiny fur has all grown back in! Purdy may be an older dog, but she has plenty of energy and is always happy to go for a walk or run. She absolutely ADORES chasing lasers and flashlight beams across the floor! She is sweet and friendly with everyone, loves the kids, happy to play and wrestle, and is well behaved in the house. She has tons of personality and will make a new family very happy! |

Name: Rascal Flatts
Breed: Shih Tzu Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Rascal, named for Rascal Flatts, is a young adult male Shih Tzu who sadly just spent time in a shelter. While a shelter is scary for any dog, it is especially so for this little blind guy. He has adapted well to his loss of eyesight and is a happy, gentle, otherwise healthy dog. Rascal is housetrained with a routine, crated when left alone, and does very well with other dogs and kids (in fact, he was raised in a daycare home and has a serious crush on the Westie at his foster home). Although very kid tolerant, due to his disability we are seeking an adult or older child home, and one with a fenced yard and patient to help him adjust. His favorite things are cuddling, walks, and being told how cute he is. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You may email Beth at brasmussen@me.com with questions. UPDATE: Being visually impaired does not hold Mr. Rascal back at all! This little guy is all hugs and playtime now that he has recovered from eye surgery. He is ready to be your best friend, snuggle buddy and show you how much fun playtime can be. Prepare to be impressed with the progress he has made learning vocal commands and navigating steps. He is truly a remarkable little dog with a superior disposition and the happiest personality around. This sweet little boy came into the Homeward Bound Dog Rescue program a few months ago from a shelter with Stage 4 Glaucoma and blindness in his right eye. He had twice the normal level of pressure in his eye that was causing him pain and discomfort. Out of necessity we had his right eye removed before it caused even greater pain for him. Now our focus turns to his left eye in which still has vision. We need to get him examined to see how we can prolong his vision in that eye. Being able to see will help him greatly as he transitions from foster care into a permanent home. We are seeking donations to help us raise money for his eye examination and additional treatment for his eye. You may send tax-deductible donations to P.O. Box 1802, Maple Grove, MN 55311. Please come and say 'Hi' to this little sweetheart at adoption events. |

Name: Red (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Red has lived a tough life but sure holds no grudges. He lived on a chain for 3 years before someone took the time to rescue him. He ears are a little frostbit but apart from that he shows no signs of his past life. He is outgoing, friendly, and absolutely loves to get his butt scratched. He loves people and wants to be around them to soak up love and do some serious lap sitting (don't tell him he's about 45 lbs!) Red is fine with older kids (12 and up), gets along fine with other dogs, and loves to meet near people. He is housetrained and crates well for the workday. Red is playful, loves his walks/jogs, and has learned how much fun toys can be. He makes up for his lost puppyhood by finding enjoyment in pretty much everything and trying to make every situation good. He is well ready to move on from rescue and finally into a loving, forever home. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. Thanks to MaryLee and Thomas Kreger for sponsoring Red! They know Red has been passed up for the other dogs and hope someone sees all that he has to offer! |

Name: Royce (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Canine Companions")
Breed: Beagle Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Royce is wonderful. We are all so in love with him here that we can't help but sing his praises in true beagle fashion! He is housetrained and cratetrained, great with kids of all ages and adores other dogs. He would make an excellent companion for another dog and would love to get adopted into a home with another canine brother or sister for playtime. He's been fine with cats, too, but he sees them as playmates as well, so if you have a cat, it had best be a tolerant one. Royce seems to have had a home at some point since he walked into the house and made himself at home...he has full furniture privileges (except his foster parent's bed, which really bums him out). He is a great blend of having manners and a goofy hound dog personality. Royce loves his walks and playtime in the fenced backyard, but sure loves to snuggle and relax once he's had his daily exercise! Royce can bark a bit in his crate at first, so he shouldn't go to a home with shared walls like apartments or townhomes. He does settle in nicely, but when he has something to say, he says it! Though he's full adult size (and a bit pudgy) at 30 pounds, Royce is still mentally a bit puppy, so his family will need to have lots of appropriate chew toys available for him. The good news is that his foster home reports that he only chews his chew toys - never shoes or anything else he shouldn't. |

Name: Saint
Breed: Basset Hound Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Who dat? Me dat! I'm Saint, named because I came to Homeward Bound the same weekend the New Orleans' Saints won the Super Bowl. There's more to it than that, though, because they tell me that I also have the patience of a saint with children, too, which I guess is a good thing. I'm an adult Basset Hound who was abandoned at the pound, but I belonged to someone once, since I know where I should go to the bathroom and have nice housemanners. I like other dogs and even get along fine with the kitties. I'm an older boy, perhaps 5 to 6 years old at best guess, so I'm well past puppy behaviors like chewing. In short, the nice people here say I'm just about perfect! Well, ok, not perfect. I can't go to an apartment or townhome because I like to sing with my Basset bay on occasion, so I might get you kicked out of your apartment - no shared walls for me! Other than that, though, I can fit in about anywhere, because I like everyone I've met so far. They tell me that I have a typical hound personality - more heart than brains, whatever that means - and that I'm goofy and charming. You can email Rachel at lpuppylove4u@aol.com with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |

Name: Shaft (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners")
Breed: Black Lab Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Shaft is a fetch-loving, playful black Lab who is everything that Lab lovers love about the breed. He loves to fetch, swim, run around, and love on his family. He was previously an outdoor dog so his housetraining is still being worked on but with a crate and a schedule is picking it up quickly. He loves to learn and be taught things though up until now not much time has been spent on teaching him much. He learns fast though! He is great with other dogs and older kids who can throw a ball for him. He loves to play fetch and is in his element fetching a ball, especially if there is a pond or a snowbank involved! He is reliable off leash once he knows you and would be a great addition to an active family who wants a dog to play fetch, chase snowballs, and take to the cabin in the summer. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Shay (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best Mellowest Dogs")
Breed: Yellow Lab Cross Age: Mature Adult Gender: Female Description: Poor Shay. Poor abandoned Shay, first surrendered from an owner needing to leave a bad situation and later dumped in the prime of her life by owners who didn't want her because 'she didn't stay in their yard' when they let her out. Of course not, they never bothered to put her on a leash, take her for walks around the neighborhood, or teach her yard boundaries! Shay looks like a tough old lady but her heart is as golden as her coat. She is a mature dog, about 7-8 years old but we think those are the best years. She is perfectly housetrained, crates well (though doesn't need one), and her house manners are second to none. She tolerates other dogs though would love to be an only dog, does fine with cats, and likes kids. She knows basic commands, barks appropriately, and adores playing in the water with her tennis ball. Give this girl a tennis ball and a stinky pond and this lady looks 7-8 months rather than 7-8 years! She is a fun dog with a perfect blend of being playful and mellow. She has a goofy yet loveable habit of loving to have her face washed at night. She will sit in the bathroom next to you while you wash your face and wait for her turn. Shay is so deserving of a home. She has been bounced around from home to home for reasons that were way beyond her control. Let us be the first to say that she is downright perfect! You can email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com for more details, as well as pre-adoption questionnaire information. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. For obvious reasons, this dog MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. UPDATE: Shay has a serious case of puppy love going on. She follows her foster family from room to room, adores them with all her heart, and is always ready to offer her belly for a rub. She gets along great with the kids and tolerates the cats. She would love nothing better than to have someone to snuggle with for most of the day and then go on a long walk with. She is such a love and we cannot imagine why no one has taken her home yet! |

Name: Sissy (aka Princess) (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners,"
HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs who have Been Patiently Waiting for a Home" AND
HB's Top 5 List for "Best 'Therapy Dog Candidates'")
Breed: German Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Sissy is an adult female German Shepherd mix who is on the lookout for a home to call her own! Formerly an outdoor dog, she has learned to love the indoor comforts like soft dog beds, people to cuddle with and be around, and a warm house in the winter. She easily adapted to indoor life and picked up the manners with lightening speed! She is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners. She is typical stubborn shepherd and would do best in a home who knows how to lovingly and respectfully show her she is not the boss. She toes the line once she knows that she can't get away with things! Sissy likes other dogs, is good with older kids (10+), and cannot go to a home with cats. Sissy would love a yard to play in or someone to walk her, a place to snuggle with her humans, and someone to finally recognize and love her for the amazing, wonderful dog that she is. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. I'm a spotlight dog! Name: Smokey
Breed: Heinz 57 Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Smokey is an all American Mutt, a happy, kid loving, friendly pup who is close to full grown size wise (about 35-40 pounds) but mentally still very puppy! He loves everyone he meets, is always cheerful, and would be a hit at the dog park. Smokey is seeking a home that can help him learn to be housetrained (at his foster home, he followed the other dog and did what she did), use a crate for the workday, and allow him to spread his cheer to all he meets. He comes with his kennel, dog bed, and some toys, a huge heart ready to 'share the love'. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. (Note: Smokey does not attend pet adoptions) (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from) |

Name: Sophie (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Dogs Most Needing a Home")
Breed: Terrier / Beagle Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Sophie is an adult female skittish Terrier/Beagle, about 20 pounds, born and raised in hell on earth. She was a recent rescue from a hoarder who had dogs living their entire lives in cages, with little socialization or love. Now in a foster home, she is still tentative, but wants badly to be with her people. She is too shy for small kids, but would love an adult home, preferably one with another dog to show Sophie how to be a dog. A fenced yard is required for Sophie as she is shy enough that if she escaped before she was attached to you, she would bolt. You may ask 'Why would I want to take on a dog like Sophie?' Well, for the right person, it absolutely is a committment of time and care, but the rewards are incredible, watching them blossom with some love. Note: Sophie does not attend adoption events unless specifically requested. Her foster mom can meet with approved applicants adopters during the week. UPDATE: Sophie has started to emerge from her shell. She especially likes to romp with the other dogs outside. It's as though she feels free and can't stop bouncing and running. That's when you see that big doggy smile and tail wagging. She is very gentle with the cats and greets them with a gentle nose poke. Sophie is housebroken and has not had any accidents in the house or in her crate. She is still very shy with people and spends a good portion of her time in her crate where she feels safe. She does come out every now and then to see what's going on. She is very quiet most of the time and doesn't bark but has a very distinctive bay (there's that beagle in her!) that she uses when she sees something interesting outside. She is a wonderful little dog who is doing her best to overcome her past. |

Name: Star
Breed: Black Lab Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Star is a star! This girl came from a neglect situation where she lived in an outdoor kennel, neglected and unwanted. You'd expect Star to hold grudges now wouldn't you? Nope, not our Star! She is full of love, life, and is excited about everything the world has to offer. She is wonderful with other dogs, good with older kids, and absolutely one of the most outgoing dogs you'll ever meet. She is still pretty puppyish at about a year old and needs some training but her mind is sharp and she wants to please. She is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, and is not a barker. She loves to play, loves to play fetch, and has energy and love to spare. She would love a home wanting an active, happy Lab girl to bring home and love forever. Star is still filling out as she came into rescue severely underweight but she is gaining it back and is healthy in every other way. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Sterling (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for Families with Kids")
Breed: Corgi / Beagle Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Sterling is a young adult female Corgi/Beagle girl, nose to the wind sniffing out a soft heart to capture for her new home. This gentle, lovable dog greets everyone with a tail wag and a happy grin. She is fostered with kids and other pets and does very well. Housetraining is going well, she follows the other dogs and copies them. She is crated for the workday, and has a moderate energy level. Sterling would make a fantastic family dog, happy to romp with the kids and then cuddle up for a book time! |

Name: Sugar Pie (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners")
Breed: Beagle / Pug Cross? Age: Mature Adult Gender: Female Description: Sugar Pie has had too much pie.... and too many cookies.... but man, she is sweeter than any treat we have found yet. This angel dog is an adult female Pug mix with way too much pudge on her, but more to love. She is Pug height, waddles when she walks for now, and is very laid back and easy going. Sugar gets along with everyone. Loves kids, loves other dogs, loves cats, makes friends everywhere she goes. She is well housetrained, rarely barks, and obviously is low energy. Her ideal home is someone wanting a quieter, well trained, sweet heart of a dog. She is a little older, a little lazier, and needs some walks and diet food for awhile. Her owner sadly surrendered her back to Homeward Bound when she was unable to live at home any longer with Sugar. This is a first rate, extra sweet little dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Lisa S. at Lisa.Stanford@comcast.net with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Sweets (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners")
Breed: Lab / Shar Pei Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: Sweets is a silly, always happy Shar Pei/ Lab cross who is as goofy in personality as her breed mix makes her look. She is best described as a wrinkly mini-Lab! Sweets is full of fun, play, and a nice dose of mischief. She is a puppy in a grown up body, though not so grown up at just about a year. When you meet this girl you'd never guess she came from a home where she was chained up for so long that the chain wrapped around her, imbedded in her skin, and caused a big scar across her back. Sweets doesn't know what holding a grudge means however and she forgives easily. She loves toys, loves to run and play, and has energy plus. She likes to chew, like any puppy, but with nylabones, rawhides, and plenty of toys around she mostly keeps her mouth on her own things! Sweets is housetrained and cratetrained. She tolerates the other dogs, will eat a cat (ie no cats!), and is good with older, active kids. Sweets would do great in a home wanting a young, active dog to join in on all sorts of fun activities! You can see more pictures of her at http://s794.photobucket.com /albums/yy226/lberg05/Sweets/. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. UPDATE: You know a dog is special when their foster home tears up just thinking about having to let them go and for her foster home, Sweets is one of those dogs. She is goofy, silly, loving, and thinks her main goal in life is to make her people laugh and smile daily. She sure does well too! She loves to play, loves tennis balls, and will roll on her back and wiggle for a belly rub! A puppy in a grown up body is the best way to describe her. She knows how to sit and is working on other tricks too. If you want a fun-loving, active little pooch, check out Sweets. Her foster home has so many good things to say about her. I'm a spotlight dog! Please check out my blog page to learn more about how wonderful I am www.homewardboundrescue.blogspot.com! |

Name: Tater Tot
Breed: Rat Terrier Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Tater Tot here is an adult smaller Rat Terrier (11 pounds) who landed in dog jail after trying to protect his human mom during a domestic issue. Now, this may make him sound like a little terror, but Tater is anything but! Housetrained, rarely barks, and LOVES the company of other dogs, Tater has been an angel in his foster home. He does well with visiting kids and has acclimated like he has always been there. He is a charming, adorable, very smart little dog seeking a place to call home. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions or wish for an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |

Name: Texas
Breed: American Bulldog Cross Age: Young Adult Gender: Male Description: Texas is just as cute as can be! Super loving, great with kids, loves to play with the other dogs and is afraid of cats. He is housebroken, crate trained and has been to obedience school. He is still young, around 9-10 months old so does still have some puppy in him. Texas doesn't run away after being attached either! He is a little on the chubby side right now, weighing around 55 pounds and is probably fully grown. He loves to go to the dog park, run jump and play! He would do great at agility as well! For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email shaspring@live.com with questions or for a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Tinkerbell
Breed: Rat Terrier Cross Age: Senior Gender: Female Description: Tinkerbell is a sweet, snuggly Rat Terrier cross. Tink is about 8 and fiercely devoted to her foster mom. She doesn't chew and is house trained on a schedule. She'll bark when someone comes to the door, but is otherwise very quiet and mellow. If she had her way, she would curl up in your lap to sleep 23 hours a day. The other hour, she would love to fetch her orange squeaky dinosaur. In her foster home, she sleeps in a crate (or in bed on weekends and special occasions.) Tink can be crated for the work day, but she is trustworthy in the in the house alone. She's too small to jump up on the bed all by herself, but would be ecstatic if you'd lift her up there. All this girl wants is a soft warm place to take a nap. Tink loves her walks, but isn't crazy about this cold weather. She's happy to run into the yard to do her business as quickly as possible, then run right back into the warm house. If your lifestyle is less active, Tink could be a good match for you. While Tink adores people, she is afraid of other dogs, and unpredictable children make her nervous. Tink needs to go to a home with no other pets and no little children. Gentle, older kids would be fine. Adoption events are terrifying for Tink, so she doesn't attend them. If you have a quiet, pet-free, child-free home, please contact Tink's foster mom, Dominique to meet her. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions, you can email Emily at dominiquejolipalumbo@gmail.com. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. |

Name: Trixie (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners")
Breed: Terrier / Doxie Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Trixie was hoping for a name that started with a beginning alphabet letter, so she'd get more notice.. oh well, she now has to hope that her charm gets her by! Trixie is a 12-15 pound little Terrier/Doxie mix, completely housetrained, very friendly, loves other dogs and great with cats. Her previous owner passed away and she landed in the pound. Luckily she is a cheery sort and ready to forgive, forget, and make her new life with a new family. |

Name: Twila
Breed: Collie / Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Meet Twila, the Peter Pan nanny of a dog who was dumped on the side of the road when she needed medical attention. Sweet, gentle, affectionate Twila is an angel in a fur coat. This dog is incredible. Obviously loved at some time, she is well trained inside. Housetrained, no chewing, no barking, nice leash manners, friendly and easy going nature. Twila is about 4 years old and is a Collie/Shepherd cross. Twila is being seen this week for an injured eye, and it possibly may need to be removed. She has already adapted to no sight in it and goes about her merry way. Twila would love a quiet home, one with lots of pets and love, most of the attention on her (she sort of gets her nose out of joint when she has to share you with another dog, although does fine meeting them out and about). This dog is one of those special, something pulls you to her dogs. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. You can email Dee at thebarretts14@comcast.net with questions. She can also send you a pre-adoption questionnaire. (His/her picture is courtesy of the shelter s/he came from) |

Name: Willow
Breed: Australian Kelpie Age: Young Adult Gender: Female Description: So how do we know that Willow is an Australian Kelpie? We don't but she sure looks like one and we haven't been able to come up with any other breed combinations that seem to work. She has some herding instincts and is a fun active girl. She likes to chase tennis balls, although isn't the best at giving them back so that they can be thrown again! She gets along with most dogs and has lived with cats, although would do best in a cat free house. She loves her people and bonds quickly and tightly to them, especially women. She would make a great running partner! Willow does need a family with strong leadership skills otherwise she feels like she needs to be in charge and can get protective of her home turf. No young children for this girl as she can get bossy. Willow is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners (minus the occasional counter surfing!). |

Name: Xander
Breed: Yellow Lab / Golden Retriever Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Xander is a large Yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix, a sunny color with a sunny, happy heart. This big boy loves everyone he meets, with no hesitation. He is used to living with kids and loves them, as well as gets along with every dog he meets. He is housetrained, crated for the workday (this is a must for him, he finds ways to entertain himself otherwise and trust us when we say the crate is his friend when alone), fetches, swims, loves the car... besides needing a crate when left alone, he is amazing! He is a happy, housetrained puppy in an adult body, ready to join you on adventures. He needs daily walks, yard play time or dog park (he is so loved there), or would really thrive living with another dog otherwise. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Zag (I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Canine Companions", HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs
for First-Time Dog Owners" AND HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Aussie / Heeler Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Zag is the best tennis ball fetcher we have ever seen! This girl is so much fun to play with because show her a ball and a place to run and chase it and she is in heaven. Her only request for her new home, at least one tennis ball and someone who wants to play some fetch. What does Zag offer in return? She offers herself as a super fun, loving companion who likes long walks/runs, playtime, an outgoing and friendly personality, and a warm pup to share the bed with at night if you'll let her. Yep, she loves to play and then at night loves to cuddle...how much better can you get? Zag is housetrained on a schedule and crates well for the workday. She is so smart and picks up things in a flash. She hasn't had much training but sure wants to learn and please her people. She is great with other dogs, loves to meet new people, and gets along well with older kids (8+ since she does show some herding tendencies of the little ones). Zag would be a great addition to any home looking for a fun, active companion to play with and love. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. I'm a spotlight dog! Please check out my blog page to learn more about how wonderful I am at: www.homewardboundrescue.blogspot.com! |

Name: Zed
Breed: Shepherd Cross Age: Adult Gender: Male Description: Sweet Zed was left abandoned by his owners when they moved, luckily he had someone kind step up and take care of him after his owners did not. He has been well-loved and it shows in how loving he is. He loves to snuggle almost as much as he loves to run at the dog park. Zed is the hit of the dog park and loves the other dogs. He would be an ideal canine companion for another dog to play with. He has been good with kids, loves everyone he meets, and is sure that everyone is is friend. Zed is housetrained, cratetrained, and tries so hard to please. He needs some basic training but he is so willing to learn and smart. Zed does have a slight drawback. You see he was abandoned before so he's worried that when his owners leave they'll be gone for good like the last ones. Poor guy thinks he isn't "good enough" for his owners to come back to. He isn't destructive, just barks a bit so is not ideal for a home with shared walls. Another dog helps to alleviate this nervousness as well as leaving him a bone in his cage to chew on. It's a small negative for a dog who otherwise is full of positives and love. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions and/or would like an application, email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. |

Name: Zig (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best Dogs for First-Time Dog Owners")
(I'm on HB's Top 5 List for "Best Treasures often Overlooked")
Breed: Aussie / Heeler Cross Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Zig is a super happy, outgoing Heeler/Aussie type mix with the intelligence of both her breeds. She learns things so fast by just watching her foster family for what they want her to do! She easily wins smartest dog of the year award. To go with her smarts, Zig is so much fun. She loves to play fetch, adores going running around the lakes, and plays well at the dog park. She is good with other dogs and loves older kids to play with. She is housetrained on a schedule, crates well for the workday, and has good house manners. She has been in rescue for far too long and is one of the smartest, most fun dogs we have. She would excel in a home wanting a dog to do a doggy sport with even...flyball, agility, or rally would be right up her alley. Otherwise a nice long walk and a good game of fetch would do fine. Zig not only has brains and personality, she also has beauty. Her eyes are so captivating. Not only by their intelligence but also because one is what is considered 'parti colored' meaning part of it is blue and part is brown. Zig is such a wonderful dog and she is waiting and crossing her paws that soon more than just Homeward Bound volunteers see that. If you have questions and/or would like an application, please email Laura at lberg05@comcast.net. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. |

Name: Ziggy (I'm on HB's Top 10 List for "Best 'Nearly Perfect' Dogs")
Breed: Heinz 57 Age: Adult Gender: Female Description: Most dogs prefer a home to rescue, as does Ziggy most likely, but she is flourishing in her foster home and has become such an amazing dog. Her foster mom is doing fat farm boot camp with her, and Ziggy is discovering a waistline as well as increased abilities to move about well! Her leg bothers her not at all anymore, she handles walks and steps with ease. She is very well behaved in the house... housetrained, no need for a crate as long as you know she might sneak up onto the bed when she is alone! She rarely barks, loves meeting new people and having guests over ( more hands to pet her!), and is just a smart, well behaved, lovely dog. She ignores the other dogs and cat at her foster home, much more people focused. She'd make a wonderful choice for a home wanting a more low key, easygoing, happy dog. For obvious reasons, all animals adopted from Homeward Bound MUST live indoors only. This dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If you have questions &/or would like an application, email Katie at kadams4545@hotmail.com. |
